Interesting to see so many adoptions posts other places...I wonder if it's the 16 & Pregnant episode last night that got people thinking about it more?
I might be poking into areas where I oughtn't but, I personally raise an eyebrow at the phrasing (I'm paraphrasing) "if adoption were my only chance to become a parent...". (and it's not said by people who are being offensive--or at least not exclusively--in the post linked above it wasn't said by someone being obnoxious at all)
I've seen it a lot on other parts of the interwebz and it somehow doesn't sit well with me--but I can't put my finger on why.
Maybe because if we pursue adoption (big if--not there yet) it won't be because we couldn't do IVF or IUI or surrogacy, it will be because I think it's a better choice (for me--I don't care what anyone else does) than those options. Or maybe because I've known to many swell people who can/did have biological children who also fostered/adopted/etc.
Or I guess, probably just because I dislike the implication that adoption is the 'less preferable' choice.
