Pacifier??

What brand of pacifier do you use?  Can your LO keep it in their mouth?

I've been using the Soothie because it was highly recommended by friends but LO cannot keep it in her mouth and she is a baby who feels the need to suck on it all day long or she cries (she has mild colic).  Are there any other LO's out there who use their paci a majority of the day?? Or am I the only one??  I am getting tired of holding it in her mouth for hours on end during the day.

Thanks!

Re: Pacifier??

  • We went from soothies to playex ortho pro and it was a great switch. She does much better with it.

  • My LO started out with the Soothie ones but could not keep it in her mouth! We have switched to the Avent ones and she seems to have better luck with those. Although lately she seems to prefer her hand instead. lol.
  • We've used the Soothie and my LO seemed to like it okay at first.  But like your LO, it was hard to keep in his mouth.  We switched to the MAM brand and he seems to have a lot easier time keeping that one in.

He does not use it the majority of the day like your LO, just when he's fussy.  But from what I understand the sucking reflex is natural in babies and some just need it to sooth themselves.

Hospital started DS with a MAM.  I have NUKs also, but they left an indent on his cheeks, so we have only used the MAM ones.

  • LO uses a soothie but can't really keep it in his mouth

he uses it at night sometimes and i usually have to help him hold it in

  • LO uses Mam. She hates soothie.

I read somewhere to try pulling it out when they have it in, and they baby will suck harder. Thus, you are training the baby to keep it in.  I sware it works, because DD keeps it in now unless she truly doesn't want it.

  • mams are about all she will take! we had soothies but she gets angry if you try to give her that!
  • 0 + month  mam's are the only ones she will take, not even the 2+ month ones
  • Heard of the gum drop? Same nipple as a soothie, but lighter weight (easier to stay in).

  • i love NUK pacifiers my pooh hates all other ones shes been on NUK since she was 2 weeks old (her doc noticed after nina tried to nurse on her she had no problems with her suck and highly doubted she would have nipple confusion!!)
  • Soothie was the pacifier we started out with for one whole night, but like you said, it's hard for LO to keep it in due to its weight.  We then tried MAM pacifiers and they are so small and lightweight he does much better with it.  None of them are going to stay in, especially with their little hands moving around...but at least this one will stay in if he's upright.  We've tried others, and they just didn't work for us.  I also like that the MAM ones don't need to go in a certain way like some.
