DS has his two month shots tomorrow (ugh). I want to give him Tylenol beforehand, but I'm not sure when to give it. An hour before the appointment? Right before? Does anyone know? I don't mean to overthink it, just want to reduce the unpleasantness as much as possible.
Re: How soon before shots to give Tylenol?
my doc recommended that we bring the tylenol to the office with us then give it to right after he gets weighed...that way we know exactly how much to give him.
DD - February 2011
This exactly. We just had them today!
I'm of the mindset that tylenol is a good tool but it should not be abused. My DS did not need tylenol - he had no fever and he had no pain. I gave him a shot in the mouth of gripe water immediately after the shots and then he went on sucking paci. Yes, though we did only do two of the five vaccinations.
I would wait to get approval from pedi. Tylenol isn't really made for babies but pedis do allow it under special circumstances - especially in the event of fever. My pedi said to only use it if he developed a low grade fever.
Good luck tomorrow! IMO Kids follow our lead - if you are all upset, then LO will pick up on that.
Yeah, I suspect I will have a harder time than he will!
