I go to a natural store in town and get their bug spray...it contains specific oils that repel bugs and no chemicals. If you have this type of store near you you could try there...
I went camping a few weeks ago and called my dr's office to ask about DEET. ?The nurse practitioner told me that while it's obviously best not to use it, they also don't want you to get something like West Nile Virus. ?She said to use the sprays that have the lower amounts of DEET in it - you'll just have to reapply it more often. ?Wear dark clothing, put on long-sleeves/pants/socks in the evening, if it's not to warm. ?Try to spray it on your clothes and not your skin.
I used the OFF! clip-on spray and it seemed to work well (and mosquitoes LOVE me!), but I honestly don't know if those chemicals are any better or worse than DEET. ?I just liked that I didn't have to spray it on me.
The natural sprays (like Burt's Bees) were not effective for me.?
