Anyone's DC allergic to Penicillin?

If they had hives with it, how long did it take for them to go away?  DD has had them for two days (today being worse) and I'm just wondering about how long this is going to last.  TIA.

  • the hives can last for several days....heat and sun can make it worst.  It can come and go for several weeks depending on the severity of the reaction.

  • None are allergic to PCN...but my oldest is allergic to Sulfa.  She didn't get hives...just a raised rash all over her body and it took 2 days to go away (we gave her Benedryl).  My DH is allergic to PCN though and he doesn't get hives...he gets bright red streaks on his limbs that go toward the trunk of his body.

  • I don't remember exactly, but I believe it took at least a week for DS's hives to go away and it may have been closer to 2 weeks to be completely gone.  He had it really bad - head to toe.

That's how she is.  It is even in her joints - the doc said that might happen and sure enough today she is having a hard time walking and complaining about her hands hurting.  The doctor is calling in a prednisone rx now so hopefully that will help.
