1st incident report from daycare today

I dropped DS off this morning and daycare and the first thing he did was hit another little boy who is a couple months younger then him. When DH picked DS up because of a fever he also had his first incident report. It stated that DS had taken pushed another child down, taken the toy and the other child bit him. DS has a full set of teeth marks on his upper arm so I am guessing a younger toddler must have been in the nursery today. DH said he tried to get them to tell him who did it, but they wouldn't so he was going to hang out and see which other parent had to sign and incident report.

I had to remind DH that I was never allowed to tell the parents who bit who when I worked in daycare. And that the daycare had followed protocal by calling me to inform me of the incident prior to us picking up.

  • DH would freak out, but ike's been bitten and really while i felt terrible for ike, the mom and i quickly took care of the problem (it happened right in front of us) and there's nothing that we can really do at this age, ya know?  I'm glad they let you know though and that it was only once :o)

  • I HATE the biting factor at daycare!!!  We are in the 2 year old class and it's STILL going on.  I'm cool with it for the most part, just because it's what happens, until the boy bit DD so bad it drew blood and she has a scar now 2 months later that we are hoping really does go away - sometimes it's just too much and I can't blow it off as easily.  The older they get the worse the bites get :(  I also hated not knowing who bit DD, but I picked up on things more and more and figured out a common biter was the culprit each time.  But now that she can talk I ask who bit her and she tells me :)  I'm on the verge of switching if she gets bit again.  I think it's what happens, but I also think a pattern is a bad sign - the teachers need to be able to react quicker especially in my situation that it's a known biter.  Sorry :(
  • I knew it was going to happen eventually. Maybe not in the nursery, but definatly in the toddler and two year old room. I taught 2's for a long time and I always had one or two kids in each class that were the biters. DH knew it was an issue when I taught and I thought he would have been more prepared for it to happen to DS, but he is much more protective of DS then I thought he would be.

I completely agree with you on changing daycares or at least bringing it the directors attention that your child keeps getting bit. I had many co-teachers who were just no observant enough to realize that biting was going on in the classroom even though they were given specific direction on who the biters where and to keep them near a teacher at all times. Patterns are a very bad sign.
