reposted position, but I'm still being considered????

I interviewed for a job 5.5 weeks ago.  I interviewed with the top person, which I was told means that it was pretty good I would get the job.

I emailed the recruiter 2 weeks after (end of June) and she said they had not made a decision, but I was still being considered.

I called last week with no response.

I just saw that they reposted the position at the end of June (just a few days after my email with the recruiter).

WTH does this mean?  No answer, but I am still being considered, but they reposted the job? 

I'm thinking bad news.  *sigh*

I would say it's probably not a wonderful sign (usually when I do that to people they're not my "ideal" so I just want to see what else is out there).  But if you were totally out of the running they would communicate that.  On the bright side- that happened to me.  I interviewed for a job and a week later it was reposted.  A week after that I got the offer.  So anything is possible

That's so aggravating! I'm not going to lie, it doesn't look great, but I agree with wisc.bride that there's still hope. Who knows why they reposted, but I agree that if you were totally out they would've already let you know. Don't give up and good luck to you!

I found out from a recruiter that some companies have an HR policy where they must list a job for a certain number of weeks even if the position is filled.  I have followed up on posted jobs where the position has been filled already for a few weeks.  Don't lose hope!

I don't think it looks good, sorry. But, my company does have the policy duchess mentioned - postings must remain out there for a certain period of time - this applies to internal posting and then external posting also.

Someone brought up the idea that there might be more than one position - which is very, very likely.  My inside source thought they were hiring more than one person.  I had forgotten that.  I will believe that until I hear otherwise!
