2nd Trimester

Flintstone Vitamins

I went to the Dr. yesterday and mentioned that I'm having a hard time taking my prenatals because of the size. The one brand I was taking because the size was small (similar to an aleve pill) has been discontinued. Anyways, she told me to take Flintstone vitamins. 1 in the morning and 1 at night.  Has anybody else been told this? Do you take a Folic acid pill as well?

Re: Flintstone Vitamins

  • Ask if they can prescribe the chewable prenatals... It has more in it than just the additional folic acid and definately important.

  • I take CVS store brand PNV. They are about the size of a tylenol, but are more oval shaped and flatter than a tylenol. I know my doctor said you should shoot for some unit (I forget what unit it was) of 8 for folic acid, where most vitamins give you 4 units of folic acid.
  • I automatically started taking them because I can't swallow large pills.  I just take 2 in the evening.  I do not take an additional folic acid pill, there is folic acid in the flinstone vitamin.

  • My friend took Flintstone vitamins. Her doctor suggested it for her. We have the same doc, but he hasn't suggested it for me.
  • I did two Flinstones and a Folic Acid with my first son, and again this time, too.
  • I am taking Flinstone vitamins.  The prenatal vitamins I was taking were making me horribly ill so my Dr. told me to take 2 Flinstone vitamins and a DHA supplement.

This. I take mine in the morning.  I had to start taking them because my prenatals were making me sick.

  • All the PNV I took made me wicked sick so I've been taking just one Flintstone Complete and DHA suppliment every night. My Dr.'s ok with it and it works for me!

  • I take 4 of the gummies when I remember.  The gummies have less Folic Acid so I have to take more.

  • I couldn't keep the prenatal vitamins I was taking down, so my doctor told me to take the Flinstones ones. I take 2 at night of the Flintstones Complete, which has the same amount of folic acid as my other vitamin. That's what Ive been taking since about week 8.

  • oh ya I have been taking them up until last month. I take the Flinstone Vitamin that has more Iron in it. She told me to take 2 a day and I would take some kids DHA chewable vitamin too.
  • Hi there - I was told this too! I was so sick and could not take the regular prenatal vitamins. I eventually felt better and went back to the regular ones. I aalos made sure to eat lots of berries and cereal for the folic acid.

  • Yes, you can my dr.'s office suggested this to me. I chose the flintstones w/o iron because the iron is what makes you sick ( and constipated); they agreed it wasn't a problem unless I became anemic.

  • I couldn't stomach regular prenatals either, so I take 2 Flinstones. My doctor recommended them, and she says there's enough folic acid.

    gl!

p.s. I do take an extra DHA supplement though...

  • I am going to get flinstone vitamins tonight. my pnv have sent me to urgent care and the ER the other night. some people cant handle the size of the amount of iron. when I was in the ER the doctor there told me to start taking flinstone's. check with your doc for amounts...

    good luck.

  • my doc gave me an RX for chewable?prenatal, they are orange flavor and have everything i need. I'm seeing all these post that people are taking flintstone and I wonder why more doc's dont give out an RX for what I'm using it has more of what you need and most insurances will cover most of the cost. Cheaper then anything over the counter I could have got.
  • I do two Flintstone vitamins, my midwife told me I don't need to add the DHA supplement until 3rd tri.
  • I did this with DD and now this pregnancy.  The iron in prenatals was just too much for me - so do what your doc says :)
  • I take 2 in the morning and additional folic acid

  • I took flintstone vitamins in my first trimester because I couldn't keep the prenatal vitamins that my doctor gave me down. I took two ( one at night and one in the morning plus a DHA supplement) Now I take Nature Made Multi Prenatal which are smaller pills and as long as i take them at night they don't upset my stomach. Good Luck!
  • I take two Flintstone gummies and a folic acid per day

  • I'm taking them. I've taken them with all 3 of my pregnancies. I just take 2 at night & don't take any folic acid but when I can stomach them I also take one of those Expecta pills.
  • They were suggested to me. And I have been taking them since 6 weeks.
  • I also take Flintstones glad to see I am not the only one.  I take 4 around 7 pm and a folic acid around 5.  I was told to separate the two.
