2 month appt. tomorrow - What to expect?

Jack has his 2 month appointment tomorrow, and I'm very nervous about it! Is the appointment (especially the shots) as bad as I'm anticipating? Any tips to make it a little easier on baby (or Mom!)?

Re: 2 month appt. tomorrow - What to expect?

  • Every baby reacts differently, (and not to scare you or anything) but Keira's 2 month shots were terrible. They stuck her in each thigh and she had a terrible day and night that night. Screamed for 6 straight hours. Screamed in her sleep, was shaking, and spit up more. (Probably because of the crying). The nurse said her daughter reacted the same way,and was probably because these shots do make them sore. It was so pitiful. I did giver her .8 ml of Tylenol but it did nothing for her. The scraming started about 2 hours after the shots. (And she screamed for 15 minutes after they gave them to her.) Terrible! :( Be prepared to give lots and lots of snuggles. :)  It made me cry watching her cry. Good luck. and HUGS. I hope it won't be as tough for Jack as it was for Keira.

  • We had the opposite experience.  O did great, they gave him the 2 shots (one in each leg), and then an oral vaccine.  He cried for about 20 seconds after the shots and then just slept the rest of the day and night, only woke up to eat.  I highly recommend feed him before going in, even if just to top him off and it might make him a little drowsy.  Also, give Tylenol 20 - 30 minutes before the shots. If you aren't sure how much to give - b/c I wasn't - you can ask the pedi or nurse and they will do it for you.  Other than that, just snuggle and be careful of the injection site.  Good luck!
  • Thanks for sharing your experiences. I'm sorry to hear Keira had such a rough time, but glad Owen didn't have much trouble with the shots. I guess I'll be prepared for the worst and hope for the best tomorrow. I will definitely plan on snuggling with Jack a lot in the next couple of days.
  • My Jack did pretty good with all his shots except his 6 month ones where he was very clingy and whiny...but not too bad. He was clingy after most of the others and watned to cuddle but I'd def. say give the tylenol and be preapred for loving~~

  • I didn't give DS Tylenol and he was just fine. I didn't want to give him anything unless he needed it. The Dr. said I could give him one dropper full if needed. GL!
