I never got to meet DH's mother and father because they passed away before we ever met. We are having a boy and DH would like to name the child Frank but I just don't like it. He wanted to know why and I told him that it sounds like a a grumpy old man's name ... it took me a while to say it and I tried to be polite but he would not consider other names until told him.
Was I really rude? Is is it me? No offense to anyone who is thinking of that name, names are a personal choice ... like the name "Apple".
Re: The name Frank
I think it is sort of cute. ?It is on the list of "hipster baby names" on nameberry.com, so it can have sort of a cool, modern vibe if you are into that.
I would definitely consider it for a middle name, at least. ?It sounds like it would mean a lot to your DH, and I think that is important with naming your child?
this made me lol.
frankie is a cute name...
Sorry didn't get that (middle name option from your post). Francis would work well as a middle name it is not as harsh sounding as Frank. I still think that it would be a nice thing to do for your dh. Unless you are doing a double name thing the mn doesn't get used much except for formal documents and when mothers yell full names to indicate to their children that they are not please with them!

I know you're in a sticky situation... my DH and I were in a similar situation and I wasn't crazy about the name he was suggesting. But you guys can work with some variations of the name; I love Frankie!
To Timmy:
First you said you liked the name Frank then you said in later poste when I mentioned Francis that Frank was harsh. Your statements are conficting. I really do not need opinions on it because selecting names is a personal choice, everyone has their take on it. I do not like it as a first name, would use it as a middle name or Francis as a middle name. Our last name is Verdi so I was thinking of Robert as a first name. I'm not that into unique sounding names.

Then why ask opinions on a name opinion board?
I do like Frank. I think Frank as a mn sounds harsh, where Francis after a fn flows better. I don't really care what you name your child although Robert is a great, classic and strong name. GL
read the other responses...clearly everyone else had an opinion on your name too, so why pick on me?
to answer your question: yes!
nms...maybe you could use it for a middle name?
