Swelling and breathing issues

I'm just wondering if anyone else experienced these and what (if anything) you were able to do. I have an appt. tomorrow and will go over it then, but I feel like it's getting extreme.

I have several times a day where it's very difficult to breathe, primarily if I'm sitting (driving to work, being at work, etc).

Also, my swelling has gotten pretty bad. I try to keep my feet up as much as possible, but they swell anyway. My hands are so swollen that my fingers and joints hurt. Last night I realized that DH's wedding band fits me now (it's a10.5) - my ring was a 4.5 - it just seems like a drastic change to me. Did anyone else have this too?

Re: Swelling and breathing issues

  • The swelling does seem extreme - you should call your doctor about that and try to be seen ASAP.

Unfortunately, trouble breathing just goes hand in hand with being pg with twins. It is hard work growing 2 people, and not a whole lot of room in there. If they shift positions or "drop" you may get some relief, but chances are the trouble breathing is there to stay :(

  • Some swelling & the breathing issues can be 'normal' parts of pregnancy but also can be signs of potential problems so make sure to talk to your OB about both & make sure your BP and urine dip are normal. GL!

  • That seems to be a lot of swelling, at least, I didn't swell that bad.  I don't think it would hurt to give the OB a call today and let them know what is up.  Let the doctor make the decision if this is something to be worried about.  Try to take it easy today, get your feet up as much as possible.

Unfortunately, the  breathing is just part of pregnancy.  One of the babies might be pushed up farther in your ribs.

  • yeah, ditto calling your doctor. it could just  be the heat, but don't take any chances!

  • I had severe swelling issues the last month of my pregnancy (so 32-36 weeks)...it did go hand and hand with my high bp so it is good that you willl be seeing your doc about it...the breathing was tough with the two babies in there, but I never felt like I couldn't take a breath, so be sure to stress exactly have difficult a time you are having with your doc...good luck!
  • Thanks so much everyone, I have a call into my Dr. (my appt is tomorrow am, so either that will stand or they'll take me this afternoon). My BP's been good so far, so we'll see.

  • Yeah keep us updated!  I am having difficulty breathing particularly at bedtime and what I've read that's normal.  Ditto PP that the swelling seems extreme.
