Did you DH go with you? I know this is probably a dumb question but I am so new to the RE scene - I honestly don't know if that is required or not. Thanks!
I can't say that it is "required", but it is a good idea. They will be talking a lot about family history and it is good to have your H fill the doctor in on his side. Mine also ran blood work for both of us that day, had he not been there they would have just had him come in at a later date, but it was good to get one part over.
Also, there will be a ton of information discussed, so it is good to have a second set of ears. Plus my H had so many questions once he started talking to the RE, it was good he got a chance to get those questions asked - had I told him about the info at the appointment, I would not have been able to relay it all correctly.
Good luck!
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I would think if it was a requirement they would tell you (it wasn't with my doc.), but I feel it's a good idea for DH to go along. Mostly for the second set of ears plus they will ask for some of his medical history. As far as blood work goes, due to insurance requirements we need to go to a Quest lab for bloodwork so having that done at the RE's facility was not an option.
It seems like many RE's have different ways of approaching things. My first appt. was mostly information gathering and then a plan going forward. It lasted less than an hour. I checked in to another RE in my area that said you should expect to spend 1/2 a day at their office for the first appointment. If you're on the fence, give them a call and ask. I'm sure they'll be happy to help.
Like these other ladies, I don't think it's required. But I will say that the hubs asked just as many question as I did, if not more. They do gather information on him too, because once you're seeing an RE, it's the two of you in on the fertility thing, not just you. Good luck!

You've heard it before but just wanted to give you my .02: My doc's office said they weren't required but it's a lot of information to take in that having two sets of ears helps. Plus, as the pp's said, your H will probably have questions that you think of.
My RE strongly encourages both to attend because he looks at IF as a couples issue regardless of why you are struggling with it. My DH went and I was glad he was there - it's a lot to process and it's helpful to have that support and 2nd set of ears.

My RE required that H attend the first apt. I was really glad they did - just my opinion but I think you should both go.
