we've been CDing, but the daycare where sprout will be staring next month (gulp) requires that we use disposables. i'm curious if anyone else has found a daycare in Dallas that will use cloth?
i can't remember who but i thought a couple of moms from the Nest had found a couple - have you gone into the daycare and shown them how easy it is? i know some moms on the eco-friendly board had success after showing the diapers - everyone instantly thinks pre-folds when you say cloth
yeah, i thought maybe i'd make a last effort and take them a bumGenius for a show+tell. "see? it's just like a cute disposable!"
it is somehow connected to their accreditation requirements, but some of non-bump boards indicate there may be a loophole if your pediatrician writes a note or something.
Ours does, but that won't help you much as it's a preschool that only takes ages 2+
That said, there is absolutely NOTHING in the state licensing requirements that dictates disposables-only. So if they're telling you that, then you can call them out on it. The ONLY thing that licensing requires is that each soiled (i.e. poopy) diaper must be placed in its own individual bag. So I provide a big wetbag (holds 4-5 diapers) and they bag each poopy diaper in a recycled grocery bag. I'm trying to get them to use zip-loc bags that I can wash out at night and reuse, to be a little more eco-friendly, but hey... they're using cloth so I can't complain too much!
Medical City will take cloth. I'm trying to decide if I should pull Reese from her daycare now and take her there. She's in a daycare near home and they won't do cloth. Medical City is about 2 minutes from my work and they were very willing to try cloth. You just have to provide your own diaper pail.

Yep, NAEYC requires a doctor's note... I should ask our pedi at DD's next checkup whether she'd be willing to write a note like that, since both of our top daycare choices for this next baby are NAEYC-accredited. Our pedi is pretty crunchy so I wouldn't be at all surprised if she'd be OK with it
Good luck!

Here's a link to the licensing requirements: https://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Documents/Child_Care/Child_Care_Standards_and_Regulations/Centers746.pdf
The stuff around diapering starts on page 112. Specifically, 746.3505(f) has the requirement on individual bagging of soiled diapers.
That said... I've heard that NAEYC frowns upon cloth diapering, so if your daycare is NAEYC-accredited, you may be in for more of a fight.

thanks! back at you.
And back to you.
flyer, they are an naeyc school, so i think that's the issue. i'm not sure how much good it will do me, but i'll try the pediatrician route anyway.
sweetpea, thanks for the tip about medical city! it's a bit further away from our home/work, but it's worth looking at more. also sending you a PM.
it's all so complicated, isn't it? even just diapering a kiddo raises 2,012 possibilities
