I just saw your answer on the nest for what you were reading and was wondering how you like Dr. Dobson's book so far? I think I need to do some reading on raising little boys and this caught my attention.
I guess I'm just looking for something ... he is really really pushing my buttons lately and I don't seem to be getting through to him. We really haven't had this problem before now. I mean we have but not to this extent. He is not listening, he whines when he doesn't get his way, he is defiant, he is just not my sweet little boy anymore. I'm feeling a little frustrated.
I am so right there with you. The blatant disobedience is enough to send me over the edge. Ben has been super whiny too, won't walk anywhere, and just tough in general. From what I can gather - it's a phase. Fantastic, right? My friend went through this same awful stage with her little girl this time last year. Almost everyday she'd call me crying because she was so frustrated. I think it's just all part of it.
When he whines, I tell him I'm sorry, I don't understand you. What did you say? Or, Try again and this time with manners. Almost always he'll respond using manners and a nice voice. Of course it doesn't always work.
I've been cracking down harder on him when he doesn't listen too. It's just too important when we're in a parking lot, or in the store, etc.
I don't have an answer, but I just wanted to say I'm right there with you.
I'm only about 1/3 the way through the book but really like it so far. Like Speed said, it's mostly intuitive. Alot of facts and common sense but its a good reminder of what we "should" be doing. It's worth a read I think.

Re: Viv- book ?
::butting in:: Bif read "Bringing up Boys" and thought is was really smart, but also kind of intuitive.
