Help! Horrible, bleeding diaper rash

I'm using Aquaphor like it is going out of style and it is just awful. He has diarrhea, which I am sure is the cause, but how can I fix it? He's screaming in pain every diaper change.

Re: Help! Horrible, bleeding diaper rash

  • DD2 had this last week due to meds.

Aquaphor, Neosporin, Mylanta, and then butt cream.

  • When this happens, I do not use wipes because they burn really bad. I put a towel down and use a little water bottle to squirt on him. I used to use Dr. Smith's because it worked on DD. It didn't touch DS. On him I use triple paste.

  • Poor thing. My pedi turned me on to a mix of Aquaphor and A&D cream. Worked great, but DSs was not quite that bad. I would call your pedi.
  • I swear by Triple Paste!
  • rinse the wipes out with water to remove the alcohol and soap that makes it hurt.

Calmoseptine (at Target in the pharmacy area) was the one thing that helped for the really bad ones.

If its bright red, it could be yeasty.

  • Oh, yeah, and no wipes, just water and soft cloth...we actually used those automotive paper towels..the really soft durable ones.
  • stop using wipes immediately.  Either spray the baby down or put in the bath tub with each changing. Then let the baby air dry and go with out a diaper if possible if not.  Lightly blow dry and then put hydrocortizone on it before putting on a diaper cream.  Do this for a day and it chould be all cleared up.  good luck!
  • Call the Dr. ?Diaper rashes like that can easily go to a yeast infection, which is super painful for them.?

The Dr can prescribe a cream to put on that will take it away quickly!

I hope your LO feels better soon! ?

  • You might want to look at his diet as well.  Maybe give him some yogurt/activia to get him more balanced.  Poor guy.  Change him even if you don't think he is wet and put more paste on him.  If he STTN put it on really, really thick.  As the other pp said...it could be yeast.  My DS never had yeast but I understand it just doesn't heal unless you have ointment specifically for that.
  • ditto everyone on the wipes.

PAC gets this -- it's a yeast infection. What always works for us (per doctor's orders) is a squirt of neosporin, a squirt of hydrocortisone and a squirt of lotrimin, mix it up, put on butt twice a day. Triple paste in between.

try to wash as much as possible, try likewarm oatmeal baths to soothe and keep open as often as possible.

  • We've had that a few times with different antibiotics when the girls were on them.  The first thing I did was get them on at least one tub of yogurt a day (or more).  That seems to help stop the diarrhea and neutralize the poop.  Then we used A&D like water.  Like some of the pp said, try not using wipes.  We went with warm wet (just water) cloths.  A&D works like a charm on my girls if/when we can stop the diarrhea.
  • Anytime one of my DDs had a bleeding rash, A&D usually works.  Once, A&D alone didn't work and I did A&D and Desitin and that worked.

  • lotrimin, clotrimazole generic brand name lotion found in the athlete's foot section.
