gas? electric? how do I choose?

back in KY there's 1 and only 1 gas & electric company, so you don't have to think.  There's a few here and they all seem pretty much the same except some have prepaid or even billing etc.  I'm just looking for the cheapest (aren't we all?)

How do y'all choose which company and which plan?  A little help plzzzzz...

Re: gas? electric? how do I choose?

  • For gas, I think there's only one - Atmos (I could be wrong!). For electric, you can compare on powertochoose.org. We've used gexa for about 4 years and have no big complaints.

  • I'm no help. We've gone through probably three electric companies since we moved in a year ago. When do you move in, again?

I thought Atmos was the only gas company too.  For electric we went to https://www.saveonenergy.com/ and put in our zip to see who could give us the best rate.  GL I hate doing that stuff!

    Exciting! Oh, and YGPM.?

  • We also use Gexa.  At the time, their rates were less than TXU for the amount of power we were using.  I haven't compared lately.

With Gexa, I earn AAdvantage miles.. one for every $1 spent.

Gexa has some guaranteed rate plans, I recently switched to the 12 month Green plan.  Renewable energy at a guaranteed rate for 12 months.  It was a lot cheaper than the rate I was getting for "dirty" energy without a "plan".

We use CoServ for electric and are gas is through the city.

  • Don't lock in for long term rates (say 3 years) I made that mistake when we moved here and I can not change until next year without a penalty.  I wish I had known, I would have gone month to month for a bit to figure it out.  But at the time I did not realize there were so many option here.  We have TXU and I can not wait to change...11 months to go.
