Lifetime Fitness... worth it?

We are looking into joining when we move there.  I think it will be about 130 a month for our family to join.  From what I can see, it is awesome.  But there is also LA Fitness that has a daycare that is much cheaper, just not as awesome with all the pools and stuff.  So, would it be worth it for us to spend the extra money to join Lifetime?  Is it really as awesome as it looks?  TIA!

Re: Lifetime Fitness... worth it?

  • I'm not a member at Lifetime, but when I join a gym again, it will definitely be there.  We (a few of us on the board) had our kiddos in swim lessons there, and I can honestly say it looks like the most fabulous gym ever.  I canceled my old gym membership because I just don't have the time to go (and don't want to take anymore time from T that I have to, due to working FT).  But yes, without being a member but just seeing it, I would say it is worth it, especially if you are one that goes consistently. :)

  • Unless you guys are big time gym rats, planning on using the pool A LOT, and right next door, I'm going to say no. There are a lot of nice gyms that you can get day care at for a lot less than that. One thing to consider is are you going to be using that pool a lot? Or is there one closer to home, like in your neighborhood, that you think you will be at more. ?Also, how far away from home is it? I looked into Lifetime out here, but it's a 20 minute drive away. ?I didn't feel like we would actually make it there enough to justify the cost. That's JMHO.

  • Also, don't forget to look into other gyms. I was wowed by Lifetime, too, but they just opened a brand new 24 Hour Fitness closer to our house, which is just as great and cheaper. Yeah, it's half the size, but the only stuff it's missing is stuff we wouldn't really use anyway.
  • I would say it is definitely worth it. We are members and I used to go all the time but since having DS I haven't been much due to I would feel guilty leaving DS in daycare longer so I can work out. Honestly, before we were members there I had no desire to go to the gym but when we joined it was like going to a resort everyday.
  • It's an awesome gym definitely, and I think it's worth it. But for us (we're members at the Mansfield location) the other gyms around us are nowhere near as big and nice. But I can't speak for other gyms in the DFW area.
  • Are swimming lessons included with membership?

  • We live right between Lifetime and LA Fitness, so we had a hard time deciding between the two. We ended up deciding on LA because we didn't think we'd get our moneys worth at Lifetime (all we do is lift weights and use the treadmill/eliptical). I guess you just have to decide if you'll actually use all that they offer. If not, it's probably not worth it.

No, they are extra, but I thought it was reasonable, $100 for 8 weeks.

Swimming lessons is extra. They have a ton of programs for kids that are awesome but cost addtl. My dsd has gone to cheerleading camp as well as super summer camp there and loves it!
