Baby Names

What do you think of when you hear the name Natalie?

Natalie Sophia is our current top girl name choice.

I have heard everything about the name Natalie from:  "Oh like Natalie Cole!", "Ew, like Natalie Merchant?", "omg, like Natalee Holloway?", "Every slut in my high school was named Natalie," "All Natalies are bitches," "Natalie is a white trash name for girls in trailer parks."  "All the poor girls in my school were either Lynette or Natalie."

Nice range, right?  So what does it make you think of?

Re: What do you think of when you hear the name Natalie?

  • Yeah... a big, fat WHATEVER to all of those comments.  Natalie is one of our top girl names.  I LOVE it.  I think it's classy, beautiful and not super trendy (of course, my luck it will be if we ever have a girl!) :)

Don't worry about what others think... if YOU and your DH love it, use it :)

  • I just think of a pretty girl.
  • I think of a pretty girl with brown hair. The first person that comes to mind is the character named Natalie in Love Actually (the one that falls in love with Hugh Grant).
  • I thought right away of Natalie Halloway, sorry. But that will go away, and like any child would know who she was.

    ?

  • I always just think about how much I like that name.

  • i think of DH's wild, crazy cousin who jumps from guy to guy. but of course that always happens when you know someone you don't care for with the name! i still like the name, though.
  • The first thing that popped into my mind was Natalie Wood.

I like it and I've known a few Natalies who were great--nice and definitely not slutty/trashy.

  • Natalie Sophia sounds like a name that belongs to a gorgeous woman.

  • I think Natalie is a classic beautiful name. I really love it.
  • I think of Christmas and you seem to be due right around 'little Christmas'

Never met a Natalie who made a bad impression. Lovely name.

  • Terrible! Who are those people??

I think Natalie is a beautiful name. It makes me think of a sweet looking little girl with a bow in her hair. ?I picture a little blonde girl because the most recent Natalie I have taught was just that - but I think it's a gorgeous name. ?Cute for a little girl, sophisticated for a grown woman
  • I think its a beautiful name. I know 2 Natalie's... one is a distant family member and they're both really sweet, pretty girls.
  • Well, I'm biased because that's my name.  But I totally love it.  What I got a lot growing up was "Natalie Wood" and it was never negative or anything.  My actual last name was very close to Wood and supposedly I resembled her with my brunette hair and dark eyes.  I was always lost though because she was before my time.

I love the name Natalie Sophia.  Very pretty and sophisticated.  And did you know that Natalie means Christmas child??  Very fitting for me as I am a Christmas Eve baby.  And you could very well have a closer-to-Christmas baby.  (My oldest son's due date was Jan 7 and he was born Dec 23.)

Good luck making your decision.  However, try not to let other's thoughts and opinions sway you if you truly are in love with the name.

  • I think of someone who's funny, beautiful, nice and smart...but I'm biased because it's my name. Smile

I'm 30. I heard a lot of Natalie Wood growing up. I think Natalee Holloway gives a bit of a trashy image, especially because of the way hers is spelled.

But honestly I've only known a few Natalies, and none of them were slutty/trashy in any way.

I grew up in a really redneck area, and a lot of them couldn't spell it.

I started out with black hair, but it got blond, then started getting darker, then magically it got lighter again in my 20s.  Stick out tongue

I'm partial to the way you spelled it, but another variation is Nathalie (which is French I think?) and is pronounced the same way.  In no way do I like it spelled Natalee.

  • I think Facts of Life Natalie.
  • I think of Christmas, too!  And I think you need to get some new friends... those are some harsh comments LOL.  It is a beautiful name, and you shouldn't change it because of the opinions you are getting... but how about Natalia?

Same for me. Also it isn't over used.
  • Yikes!!!

So sorry you're getting such terrible reactions.

Natalie is a great, classic, feminine name. I quite like it.

  • I LOVE the name. All the Natalie's I know are beautiful, classy, loving, and kind women.
  • In response to your question, I think of Natalie from The Facts of Life.

However, I LOVE the name and if DH liked it, there's a chance that DD would've been a Natalie. It's classic, beautiful and feminine.

  • I think of a girl I went to college with who was so cute and fun. Everyone loved her.  And Natalie Portman who I think is so beautiful.

Natalie is definitely on our list.

  • I think of Natalie Portman from 'Star Wars' and Natalie from 'The Facts of Life'. I personally like the name... I think it is very pretty :)

This!  But I love it regardless.

  • I think of Natalie Merchant, but unlike your friend who said ew, it is because she is one of my favorites. She is sexy and has a lovely voice.
