I have posted some about this before, but for the last 4 weeks, we have had a cat on our front porch. It never leaves. We did not feed it for the first 2 weeks, but then it took some of DD's pizza off her plate and we decided it was time to take care of it, since it wasn't leaving and DD was playing with it. I ask pretty much everyone within a few blocks of my house if anyone knew of a missing cat, so we started to think it was dumped in the forest behind our house. (most indoor cats that get out don't go more than a few houses away if they get out)
I took it to the vet on Friday to make sure it had shots, was flealess, wormless, ect, since it wasn't leaving. I did not want a cat, but believe that every animal deserves to be humanely treated and was not going to let it suffer until I could find it a better home (I am severely allergic).
Turns out that it has a microchip. The vet said that they would keep it, try to contact the owner, and that if they couldn't, then they would give the cat shots and I could come back and get it on Saturday or Sunday.
I called the vets office today, since I had not heard from them. I called 2X, but they never called me back and have not told me anything about the cat. I don't even know if it is still there.
I don't want the cat, but I do want to make sure it has a good home and not just dump it in some cat rescue or humane society. I have a few people who are interested in the cat if the owner cannot be located and if they don't take it, I am going to write an article about it for my local paper which goes to 1100 households. I need to do this before I go out of town on Tuesday morning.
What do you think I should do? I feel like they are holding the cat hostage. If the owners where located and want tthe cat, awesome, but why not just tell me? (This is a large vet group, not just a one vet office).
Re: Is this really odd and WWYD?
How far away is the vet? I'd go in there if it's at all feasible. I cannot tolerate it when calls aren't returned. Yes, it's a little strange. I don't know why they wouldn't call you back.
Good for you for taking care of the cat even though you're so allergic. That makes me happy.

as far as wiwd...I would have fed it from my porch- and that's it...
MAYBE.
I m a cat fan, but not a dirty stray cat fan.
my neighbors have a herd of outdoor/ stray cats that are driving me up a wall.
I think youre awfully nice to be so concerned. the pets board would approve.
I wouldn't bother with any further action- it is in good hands, I suppose.
Yes, they are open. The receptionist said they would call me back, but they didn't. They have a huge practice, like 10 vets.
The cat was not gross, just a stray. Not a feral cat at all. It is very sweet, good with DD, and clearly had previously been cared for.
