Playard vs. Co-sleeper

I am getting ready to start a registry and I was hoping some of you moms might have an opinion on whether a co-sleeper or a playard (or 2) would be a good choice.  I am hoping to co-sleep with my twins and it looks like the Arm's Reach full size is good for that, but is it good for travel, too, and for using in other parts of the house.  If it is, do I need 2??  If the playard is the better option, do I need 2 of those too??  Decisions, decisions!!!  :)

Re: Playard vs. Co-sleeper

  • we have the arms reach minis. they fold up easily and can be used with the side up (ie- not open for cosleeping).

a regular PNP/play yard won't be a true cosleeper unless it has a wall that can be removed from one side... you'll still have to get out of bed to see/touch baby- which is a pain to me- and why we use bedside cosleepers (though i did see one PNP that did have a removalbe side for cosleeping that was nice).

we have 2 of the arms reach minis b/c we use the angelcare motion monitor- which you can't use if they sleep together... but if you had the big arms reach you could put 2 in there- though soem people are not a fan of that.

  • We have a regular PNP that we use in the living room... actually we just packed it up because we were only using it for the changing table and they are too heavy for it now.  We have an Original Arms Reach that they slept in til about 2 weeks ago.  Now they are in 1 crib at the moment.  We didn't find the need for 2 of either, but one of each worked well at first.  Now we have the PNP and the Co-sleeper turns in to a PNP incase we need 2 to travel.

  • We have an Original Cosleeper and it's OK, the weight limit is great for twins. BUT we found we couldn't sleep in the same room as our twins so we moved them to their crib after just a week or two. B/c that happened, I eventually decided to sell the cosleeper and buy a Pack n Play, since it's better as a playard and travel bed (a bit quicker to fold up).
