scale?

Because I will be bfing at some feedings (or as many as he will take) I am considering renting a scale.  Did you?  What are your thoughts?

Re: scale?

  • I didnt' at first and felt so lost about BF and we were struggling...

then we rented a scale and it answered a lot of questions.  I was really really glad we did.

    It wasn't cheap though!

I saw them in their catalog.  I was wondering if renting one would be better, but then again in the long run I may want to keep monitoring his weight.  Thanks for reminding me about that.

  • I bought one from Amazon.. I still weigh him every day. (we've had lots of feeding/growing issues.)

I didn't and wouldn't because I know I would have become "obsessed" with weighing him all the time and freaking out over an ounce here and there.  I was content with the monthly weigh-ins with our home health nurse and our ped. let us drop in for weight checks any time...still does :-)
  • I bought a scale ( https://www.amazon.com/Health-Meter-HDC100-01-Babies-Toddlers/dp/B0009MFUZE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1247425189&sr=8-4 )  TOTALLY worth it!  Great for weighing before and after breastfeeding to see how much baby is getting, but also for regular weight gain.  When Addie was having weight trouble, he told us to weigh her once a week, or sometimes twice, it worked out great... and I didn't have to go to the doctor for weigh ins.

So this one is sensitive enough for before and after?  Not too terribly priced either!

Yes, I believe it goes to a 10th of an ounce.  I believe it is very accurate, I always weigh her twice, and they are always the same weight, so I know it is accurate.  I also callibrate it once in a while to make sure it is right, and it always is!  A great scale!

  • We got the same amazon.com scale after Nate was discharged, he had severe weight gain problems because of his NEC complications. We used that every other day and it really gave us eace of mind. It was a bit expensive, but very worth it.
  • I had a kitchen scale already, so I'm using that and a roasting pan... so not kidding. We've weighed her once today with it and it seems right on. That might be a little janky of us... but, hey it works! Stick out tongue
