advice after bestfriend's unplanned c section

Hello everyone,

My best friend (who is closer to me than even my sister, and I'm closer to her than her 3 sisters) had her baby boyon Wednesday - she had planned to have a natural birth, but after 20 hours of laboring, and dilating to only a 4, a c section was required.  I unfortunately live very far away.  It's killing me that I'm not going to be there to help  her in these first few weeks, but I want to do something to help before I get to visit in about 8 weeks.

What things would you have liked someone to get for you that would have made your recovery easier?  I cook, and wish I could cook some healthy meals and send her way, but from NYC to Atlanta, I don't think it would work.  She eats very very healthily due to some health issues, so take out from a restaurant isn't an option.

Can anyone offer me some ideas?

Thanks - the happiest best friend in the world:)

Re: advice after bestfriend's unplanned c section

  • these are both great ideas - she's a total clean freak - her kitchen is always so clean it looks like no one lives there! and with her thyroid issues she's on a very special diet - she's in a teeny tiny town between Atlanta and Athens GA but I'm going to put my googling to good use and see what I can come up with :)

    Thanks!

  • Just a thought..

I keep seeing advertisements about edible arrangements. The ones I have seen are friut and very pretty. That would be a healthier idea than take-out. She would have the fruit to munch on when she wanted to. Good Luck and I am sure she will appreciate whatever you come up with even if you are not able to do anything until you get there!

  • I would look into a fruit basket and not edible arrangements, if you want to do something like that. I have gotten edible arrangements before and since the fruit is cut, it does not last as long as an apple or pear.

I love the cleaning idea though!

  • I second Edible Arrangements! I have both purchased them and received them, and I have always been very, very pleased. They have centers everywhere, so the distance shouldn't be an issue - just yummy fresh fruit.

  • You could ship lactation cookies overnight to her - they are great for snacking (and with you making them, you could tailor them to what she can eat).
  • I had a c-section with DS and I would of loved if someone came to clean my house in that first month.

  • A gift certificate for a cleaning service (unless her mom/mil are helping w/ all of that).

  • I would have loved an edible arrangement! Something quick and yummy to grab when hungry!

Up here in Canada, we have services that can cook and deliver foods (organic, pre-made meals)...is there something like that in her area?

Or maybe send over a cleaning service for a few weeks?  So she can relax and heal?

Congrats on becoming an Aunt!  Smile

    I love this idea!
