Did you end up being induced?
I had an internal yesterday at 39 weeks. I was only 1 cm dialted, 75% effaced and the baby was -3 station. Not much progress at all. My cervix was still tilted towards my tailbone. The doctor said, "If I had to bet, you'll be here for your 40 week appointment next week."
I have an NST and ultrasound scheduled for Thursday, at which time they will decide if they will induce immediately or give me a few more days. I am terrified of an induction.
Anyone have things progress very quickly after being told they weren't progressing much at all? I know all experiences are different, but I'm just wondering if I have a chance of going into labor naturally before 41 weeks!
Re: Was anyone only 1 cm dialated at 39 weeks?
I was only 1cm at 39 weeks. A week later on my due date, my water broke on it's own.
I wouldn't worry about it until your due date.
There is just no good way to know. I was almost four by 38 weeks, and about 30 percent effaced and I still wound up with a c/s. So I can tell you that early progress doesn't necessarily help!
Good luck... your LO will be here before you know it!
Owen Anders: labor (natural onset), failed VBAC, emergency c/s.
^this - I have a friend who went into labor several days after an appointment where she wasn't dilated at all. Another friend was at 3cm for almost 5 weeks.

I had virtually no progress (fingertip dilation) until 41 w 2 d. Within 24 h., I was fully dilated and had delivered our LO, a day shy of the induction I would've had if I'd not gone into labor spontaneously.?
Waiting was awful (esp. the last few days where I knew we were rapidly approaching the point where it would be safer to deliver DS than for me to stay pregnant) but I didn't want to be induced unless absolutely necessary. I had to go in for NSTs every 48 h. from week 40 on.
Given that I didn't have a medical reason to be induced and the NSTs were fine, I'm so glad that my doctors were willing to monitor me and give us the time it took for me to go into labor on my own.

I went to a midwife, so she never did internal checks because they really don't show anything. At 39 weeks 1 day, I went into labor at 12:15am, contractions were 3-4 min apart, so I called midwife and went in to the birthing center for a cervix check at 4:30am. I was dilated only 1.5 cm/75% effaced and sent home to continue laboring. My water broke around 7am and contractions changed to wanting to push at around 9am. We returned to the birthing center (a long, 40 min drive) and found out I was completely dilated. She was born 45 minutes later and we were home less than seven hours later!
So it goes to show, how far you're dilated and how quickly you go into labor really doesn't matter. I could have been walking around for weeks at 1cm and not known.
I was in the same situation ... induced at 41.5 weeks.
The induction wasn't that bad -- labor started quickly and I pushed for 2+ hours. Unfortunately, my son tried to come out ear first and I ended up with a c-section.
I know it's not what you want to hear, but honestly, the recovery has not been as bad as I thought it would be and everything worked out in the end. Sure, I'm not happy that I'll have to have another c-section for our second child someday, but at least I'll know what to expect.
My advice is this: be prepared for anything. You could go into labor any day, or you could end up with a c-section. A safe delivery and a healthy baby are what matter most.
