I could, but my feet would freeze and fall off. But I've been home for a month so flip flops are all I wear, not from swelling but because I can't bend over to tie my shoes anymore.
Flip flops. But "dressier" ones. Today though, I was wearing a pair of Yellow Box (the ones with the ribbon straps) and a director said, "polka dot flip flops, huh?" And I replied, "they fit my feet". He said, "Excellent point, carry on". I think I'm good.
I wear flip flops every day and have been for weeks. I used to have nice shoes under my desk for a meeting or whatever, but not these days. I wear regular dressier work clothes and then just $2 old navy flip flops!! Sometimes I get embarrassed when I have to go to the store on the way home!
We aren't supposed to, but I had a chat with my boss this week, that none of my shoes fit comfortably anymore, I was going to need to start wearing my flops to work. She's had 2 babies and was totally sympathetic. Then again, we're getting laid off in 2 weeks, so I guess it doesn't matter too much!

Well I am not supposed to wear flip flops but I told my boss that its about all my feet can handle right now since they are so swollen. They are letting me get away with it b/c I am pregnant..love it!!
I have a very funny story about this. I'm a teacher, and the first day that we go back to work after the summer vacation, there's a big staff meeting with all the teachers, administration, etc. Our principal is a little on the creepy side (early 50's) and weird. Anyways, he goes up in front of everyone, and this is what he says:
"Under no circumstances is anyone to wear thongs to work this year. They are far too dangerous when working with this population (disabled kids). Especially when you have to bend down and pick up kids off the floor and walk up and down the stairs during the day. Because of this, I am imposing a ban on thongs (our contract says there is no dress code, so this was a big deal). I don't care how hot it is in the school, you are not to wear them. If you are caught wearing thongs to work, you will be sent home and a letter placed in your file. And if anyone gets hurt because they had thongs on, then I refuse to file an accident report. I have no problem defending this ban on thongs to the union either, so don't try to file a grievance."
So as he's saying this, everyone is like OMG!!! and looking at each other and freakin out. Then, we realize he's talking about flip flops. One of the female assistant principals turned bright red and ran over to him (mid-thong speech) and whispered that "we call them flip flops now." Needless to say, it was hilarious and he never mentioned "thongs" or "flip flops" again.
I am a teacher also, and fortunately I am now off for the summer, but I wore flip flops to work, we all did! Our school is not air conditioned, so basically we had the mentality that they should just be happy that we are there let alone what we are wearing!
We aren't allowed to wear flip flops. But that is all that will fit my feet. I just kind of started wearing them a few months back and no one has complained or said anything to me. I think they can tell by the look of my cankles and fat toes that flip flops are the best I can do.
Typically we're not allowed to, but I got permission because of the pregnancy! I definitely can?t wear heels anymore!
This, but the nice pair I had from Target broke yesterday, so now I have to find another work suitable pair. I still have to have my pumps (that I can squeeze into but are not comfortable) "on call" in case our regional manager shows up.
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
TEchnically no we are not meant to wear flip flops and usually I don't (and don't wear open toe either)
But lately I've noticed more and more women wearing open toe sandals, and some even flip flops, so today I wore my flip flops. Let them tell me I can't wear them haha!
(I'm in HR, and spend most of my day in my office with my feet well hidden under my desk)
I wear birks which mine aren't super high profile/noticable like some and I think flip flops are more noticable. I don't think anyone would care. I work in a corp comany but in a smaller office building. If I worked in the same building as the CEO i prob could not get away with it.
Re: Can you wear flops to work?
I wear whatever I want. If they have a problem with it, bite me.
I wear my salt water sandals most of the time because they are more comfortable than flip flops these days.

I wear flip flops to work. But I work for my family business, which is attached to a warehouse, so the dress code is pretty informal.
