Hour long fits....tell me this is normal??

Soooooo, my dd has started this new wonderful thing.  She does not get her way for one tiny little thing and then proceeds to throw an hour long crying fit. Today is day three of this.

For example: It was time to come inside to eat dinner, she did not want to come in and I made her so she is currently in her room throwing a fit.  This fit has been going on for 45 min now.  I go in check on her every few min and tell her she can come out of her room when she is finished, but she continues to cry! What do you do?  Is this normal?

Ugggg...this sucks!

Any advice would be appreciated! THANKS

Re: Hour long fits....tell me this is normal??

  • My dd usually tops out at about 15-20 mins.  But when she is raging it is like a rabid dog.
  • When my daughter wakes up from her nap too soon, she does this. And "fit" is putting it mildly! It's more like watching a possession taking place. She screams, cries, throws things, rolls around on the floor, won't let you hold her, comfort her or attempt to meet her needs. It's terrible. I just stay close-by and keep trying to find the magic formula that will make her snap out of it. It's usually some sort of snack/tv show combo that turns her back, but it's never the same snack/tv show. She likes to make you work for it;)

IDK if it's normal, but I do know how much it sucks! I'm sorry for you and hope they both grow out of it soon!

  • Purrr..luckily she does not roll around screaming and kicking, she just sits in one spot and cries and cries and cries.  I really do not know if she knows what she is crying about LOL. I will hear about 30 sec of silence then she is at it again. NOTHING I do distracts her so I just gave up.  I suppose she will stop crying when she is ready.

Ditto this - DS does this maybe 2 or 3 times a week after his nap. It is almost scary.

He has also thrown 45 minute or so fits before about other things - once because I gave him the wrong color sippy! - but those rreally long ones tend to happen when there is also something else going on - very over-tired, teething, etc.

DS gets like that when he's tired, hungry. I walk away if he needs it or if I need it but other than that I try to help him through it.  Hes just too young to really handle his emotions 100% of the time.

  • My DD can do 45 minutrs without breaking a sweat.  She did a good 1/2 today because I would not buy her a raincoat.  Some kids are just more persistant than others.  She just turned 3 and they have gotten better.
