Painting

My husband and I are planning to paint several rooms in the house.  Does anyone know if this is safe for me?  Or have recommendations on types of non toxic paint?

Re: Painting

  • Glad you asked,  My DH and I just got a house and all the rooms need to be painted, Everyone is telling me NOT to paint. So it will be nice to see others respond! thanks

  • Just read this in my Mayo Clinic book the other night. I THINK I'm remembering correctly - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes you can paint. The "no painting while preg" was true when most paints contained lead. However there are still concerns you should address. Make sure the paint is low VOC or no VOC (no clue what that stands for). Latex paint is strongly recommended.

There are also several other precautions you need to take. The fumes can be problematic so make sure the room is extremely well ventilated. You'll probably be more sensitive to the smell, headaches, dizziness, etc. For this reason you should also never paint alone.

If you don't absolutely have to do it I probably would get someone else.

  • I don't think you can buy toxic paint anymore. Just make sure the room is well ventilated.

I hate home improvement, so I would tell DH that its a no-no to get out of it : )

This 100%, plus you probably shouldn't climb a ladder, just in case.  Although I did when I was pregnant with my DD LOL.

Also, I know the one pp said you can't buy non-toxic paint anymore and that's technically not true...paint doesn't contain lead anymore, but they do sell the low VOC and that's what you should go for.
