credit cards

We are looking for a new credit card. The 1 we have now has started to suck. They changed the rewards program & basically it does us no good to be with them. We always pay off our cc in full each month, so we are looking for 1 with a great rewards program.

Do any of you have a credit card with a great program or know of one you could recommend? We would like to change before our move that way we can take advantage of the big expenses we will be incurring in 3 weeks (kwim).

Thanks for any info you may have!!

Re: credit cards

  • It probably depends on what type of reward you'd find most useful.  I like Am Ex b/c I get cash back.

  • We've been using Chase Freedom Visa for almost a year now and really like it.  We use it for all our monthly spending & pay off.  The rewards are great (you can do cash or stuff) and you get 3 pts for every dollar spent in the 3 areas you spend the most each month & it can change month to month depending on your spending (ex gas, groceries, entertainment etc), you get 1 pt per dollar for everything else.  We pay it off each month so as not to deal with fees/rates, so I'm not sure how good their rates are.

I have a discover that I've had since I was 18.  We don't use it very often, but when we have a big purchase coming up, I usually call & ask for a special rate - like 0% and they've been good at honoring my request for a few months.

  • I'm a fan of the Citibank AA cards... I earn LOTS of miles with personal & our business expenses.  We always get a couple round trips out of the $50 annual fee.

Since you're moving to Denver, I'd look into the United card.  My sister has that one and since they are bigger in Denver, it might be better for you.

This is our current card & up until this month we have loved it. What happened was we changed what account it is paid from  (from my husbands to mine) & it wasn't paid because of the day my DH did it, so we had a balance for the FIRST time ever. They changed the rewards & tacked on a bunch of fees. It is now 1 pt for every $1 & they charged us for the program. We called & got all the fees etc removed because we always pay it off, but the rewards is just not worth it now.

We really like the cash back. Thanks for the info though!!

I will have to look into this, especially if they have a frontier card!!

    Thanks for the info!!

yikes!  i'll keep that in mind!

  • We are heavy AMEX users and use it instead of a check card and we LOVE it! The rewards are great and the benefits that come along are amazing! I highly recommend AMEX!!! I hold a green card and a Costco Amex (really only use this one) and DH has the platinum (for business use as well) and it's insane how many points we get. Plus we get more points on our Costco membership bc it's all we use (which equals more money back at the time of our renewal). So it's a double benefit!! GL!
