On the second Tuesday of every month, from 7 to 9 PM, Ed Hofmann-Smith, PhD, ND leads a seminar on vaccinations.

Every meeting will include both a discussion of the benefits to society of high levels of immunity in the community as well as an assessment of the pros and cons of each of the routine vaccinations. We assess the risks of the diseases, and the effectiveness and potential risks of the vaccines. We will also go over some strategies for minimizing the risks of vaccination. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and/or share their experiences. Other areas, such as possible connections to autism, autoimmunity, diabetes, etc may be discussed in response to questions or requests from the participants. We invite other practitioners and parents with significant experiences with vaccine reactions, etc. to share their experience, too. Our goal is to give a balanced account based as much as possible on scientific evidence, so that parents will be more knowledgeable about the issues and thus more confident in their vaccination choices.

Please call our Clinic and register for the next class. The fee is $20.00 per person or couple and includes handout materials.

Re: Vaccination

  • We went to the seminar at the clinic.  It was packed!  Go early so that you can get a seat.  The doctor who leads the discussion was very knowledgeable about the topic and was very open to discussions or questions about specific concerns.  There were some people in our group who had toddlers and were thinking about changing their vaccination schedules, so it's not just for pregnant parents.

  • Did the class address that there are enough concerns to abstain from vaccinating? I was not vaccinated and my husband was, we aren't sure what we're going to do yet. This class could be helpful.
  • I think you guys might appreciate this class.  He had very common sense about which vaccinations he felt were necessary and which he didn't think were as important.  I don't have my notes handy, but I remember he said DTap was important because if your kid ends up in the emergency room with a puncture wound they're going to want to give him/her a tetanus shot anyway, and whooping cough (pertusis) is so bad and dangerous that it needs to vaccinated.  He didn't support the Rotovirus, or Chickenpox vaccines.  That's all I remember off the top of my head, but I think you'd really like the seminar.
