have been very insane! things haven't been this busy since aaron's birthdate. we were pretty much all geared up to get aaron home after his last eye exam. originally it was scheduled for thursday but they moved it to yesterday (tuesday) so we can take him home sooner, which i only found out about that morning. they exam wasn't done until 7pm and the opthamologist said aaron needed to be treated for ROP and that they're going to do it tonight! OMG, tonight? yes, tonight! that was pretty much the conversation because i didn't know what else to say...
luckily, the doctor is the head of opthamology at the hospital and had a whole bunch of credentials on his card that i knew he'd do a good job. if it wasn't for all of that i would've been upset becasue he was a real jerk about everything. everything went well. it took 3 doses of fentanyl to get aaron sleepy because he was fighting the whole time (just like he always has!). they decided to intubate him just incase, and that took about 40 minutes because he was just not having it! they brought us in at the end to see him. his eyes were all puffy, it was really sad. and he was trying so hard to get the tube out, but they were waiting for the meds to wear off so that they knew he wouldn't go into resp distress. the doctor wanted to keep aaron there for a while afterwards (his neonatologist said he could go home if the eye dr said ok) becasue he'll need eye drops for aftercare and it would be sooo hard to do. but i wasn't ok with that. i told him if i could stick a needle into a 3 year olds mouth, i could put eye drops in my son's eyes. i wish i told him i was a dentist from the getgo because he totally stopped being a jerk and actually treated us with respect after that!
anyway, they were done by 10pm. aaron extubated himself by 430am this (wednesday) morning and he was fine. a few desatts during the day when they put his eye drops in but nothing major. he also had his circumcision today he did fine and barely squirmed . there wasn't much blood either and the doc was happy with everything. it's just that aaron looked miserable with his puffy eyes and all that happened "down there". he'd moan and groan every time we moved him. but, he still breastfed like a champ afterwards!!
so, the plan is for him to come home tomorrow (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and i can't believe it. i'm not as crazy as i thought i would be. just doing some last minute cleaning around the house and heading to bed early since last night was a looong night after the surgery. i can't even imagine having a baby at home, it's been soo long. but it will all be worth it to fall asleep to him next to me tomorrow night. here's to everything going as planned!
