Working Moms

Schedule question...walking your dog?

Hi ladies,

I will be a working mama when the baby comes, dropping off our little girl at daycare on my way into work each morning.  Do any of you have dogs that you need to walk in the morning?  What is your schedule like?  DH goes into work at 4am so he won't be any help to me in the mornings

 Thanks!

Re: Schedule question...walking your dog?

  • Ha, my dog used to get a walk in the morning, now we just let him out, he does his business and he gets a walk after work.  Mornings are a bit hectic, my DH is there but its morning and that isn't pretty!!  GL

  • No, but we should. We just lether out in the yard to do her business and then she comes back inside. We take her for a walk after work. If you're worried about her getting enough exercise you could hire a dog walker or look into doggie daycare a few times a week.
  • Thanks ladies!  I guess I need to start working with her.  She doesn't know to go potty in our yard.  We live in a town house so we have a large fenced in cement patio with grass and trees on one side.  She has always associated going potty with going for a walk.  Even when we are at my parents house (they have a huge yard) she won't potty out there, we still need to walk her!
  • I walk the dog for about 30 minutes in the morning.  DH leaves for work around 6:30, so I make sure the dog is walked and I'm showered and dressed before he leaves.  I usually wake DD up around 6:30 and we're out the door a little before 7.  Before DD was born, I'd go home during lunch to let him out, but with pumping, I could no longer fit that in to my schedule.  When we (DD and I) get home in the evening, we take the dog for his evening walk (about 1 hour).

  • We walk our dog before work. H stays home so it's a little different but he gets up extra early and takes her out...even if it's just around the block. We now have a yard (we use to live in the city) and she won't go out there. We still walk her twice a day. To do so, if we have to go with the baby, we have mosquito netting for the summer and all weather cover for the stroller for the winter and rain. It can be tough and sometimes her walks are short but we make it work.

We don't walk in the AM - we left her out to do her business. Then in the PM she will either be played with or just have the run of the property - sometimes walked - all depends.?
