I just saw your post about your sister. I'm so sorry for your loss.
As a marathon veteran....do you have any advice? Tips? We are doing nine miles this Saturday.
Mrs. Donkey is running too. We are both training for the Rock N Roll in San Antonio.
Also, I have the contacts for the North Texas Team if you are interested in joining up again.
Re: *~*Dec05gurl*~*
hey! hummm..advice?? I actually did a great job following their training schedule and it worked wonders. In Cincinnati, we had scheduled group long runs on Sat mornings & hill runs on Tuesdays (but no hill runs here I guess). I cannot say enough about the wonderful trainers/coaches. They were amazing! I will do another one someday & I will surely do it with TNT, not sure I'm ready to make the committment yet (maybe another 1/2 soon though)
Are you doing the full 26.2 in SA?
some things that I did that worked: mixed water & gatorade, sugary candy during long runs to suck on (I'd suck on a couple gummy bears), have a good partner to run with so your mind doesn't start thinking about the distance or the hurt, V8 is wonderful after a long run! So is pb&j & trail mix, do an ice bath after long runs (yes, it's torture, but really does work), don't do anything different race day/eve than you did while training...that's what I've got for now, I'll probably think of more later
Will you be @MNO on Fri?
Yup I'll be there Friday.
Yes, we are doing the full 26.2 which for the life of me I can't remember why I thought the full was a good idea. LOL. But I'm commited!
I love the team and the cause. Fundraising is a bit hard, but I'm trying to be creative in my efforts.
I commend you for jumping in for the full marathon! I wondered why I did it too...then signed up for another right after the first : )
see you Fri!
Trust me, there are hills in Dallas, especially if they are running around White Rock Lake.
Lizzy, do you guys stay on the trail or do you run into the neighborhoods around the lake? I was wondering if you'd been introduced to the Twin Sisters yet - I used to cuss them out on my bike and my skates, hee.
I love WRL. We used to skate there on Thursday evenings until they started ticketing us every time. It's a great bike ride too.
I hear you on the heat exhaustion - there's that one section on the east side of the lake (by the arboreteum), where it curves and there is no shade at all. Gah. I seriously wanted to die a couple of times and it didn't help to have a coach threatening to bean you with a skate wheel if you didn't pick up the pace.
GL on your training!
