Working Moms

WAHM -------please share your schedule/details

If you work at home, can you please share your schedule?

What time do you wake up?
What time do you take DC to daycare/nanny?
What time do you pick them up?
What time do you stop working?

Also:

How is your office set up - in a separate room? Part of your kitchen?  What does it look like?

Do you ever leave to do work someplace else, like Panera Bread, the library, etc.?

TIA

Re: WAHM -------please share your schedule/details

  • I'm a WAHM!

What time do you wake up? 7:00am, which is when DS usually wakes up.  I get DS up, change his diaper, and get his breakfast started - DH then takes over, and I start working around 7:30am
What time do you take DC to daycare/nanny?  DS goes to daycare - DH handles all DS related activities in the morning (feeding breakfast, playing, etc.)  He works outside of the home starting at 9:00am, and leaves around 8:20am to drop DS off at daycare
What time do you pick them up? I leave to pick DS up at 4:00pm
What time do you stop working? I also stop working at 4:00pm - my job is very task oriented, so if I have more work to do, I will finish when DS goes to bed at 8:00pm.  This is rare though.

    Also:

How is your office set up - in a separate room? Part of your kitchen?  What does it look like?  My office is in our basement bedroom/guestroom.  I have a corner desk in there, but there is also a bed, so it is a multi purpose room.

Do you ever leave to do work someplace else, like Panera Bread, the library, etc.?  I don't do this very often - but I have worked at Caribou Coffee occasionally when my internet is out.  Hmmm, I really should do that more often Big Smile

  • I work from home now and will when DS comes.

My office is a separate room. I have a desk and a back door for a separate entrance. We are having a nanny come into our home for a couple of hours a day. I am on the phone all day and can time it around that schedule. I can also do stuff at night.

Having the nanny I can leave and run errands during the day.

  • What time do you wake up? What time do you take DC to daycare/nanny? I used to wake up whenever DD did. Usually between 7:30-8, sometimes earlier, sometimes later. I'd get her up, give her breakfast, throw some clothes on and brush my teeth and hair, get her dressed, and take her over. That usually put me dropping her off between 9:30-10 AM, but some days it was as early as 9 AM and other days, it was closer to 11 AM.

Now that she's in preschool, I am usually up by 7:30 to get us both ready, and I drop her off right around 9:15.

What time do you pick them up? Around 5:30. DH does most pickups these days, though.

What time do you stop working? If I pick up, I try to stop working around 5 PM to go get her. If DH picks up, I stop working the minute they get home. I will often log on again after DD is in bed to finish stuff up.

How is your office set up? In a separate room. I have a desk with my laptop docking station, monitor, speakers for music, etc.

Do you ever leave to do work someplace else? Well, I'm working from the recliner in our media room right now Smile Also, yes, I'll sometimes go to a library, Starbucks, etc. I don't usually do it just for a random change of pace (I'm really quite happy just working from home), but sometimes if I have some appointments or errands to run, it makes sense to stop off someplace where I can work for a bit.

  • I only do it part time, but on days I work...

DD wakes up between 6 and 6:30. If I'm lucky DH gets up with her until 7am.

    Goes to daycare at 8:30.

Leave the house at 4:30 to pick her up around 4:45/5pm - or DH does since he gets off at 4:30 too.

I just work out of my living room on my laptop with my phones next to me. I have a magazine holder/file box that holds the few paper things I need (a notepad, pen, and a few reference books), my job really is 99% online only.

I have worked from a friend's house when I had a power outage and she didn't. I am not allowed to get on our network from Starbucks.

  • What time do you wake up? Anywhere as early as 6 AM or as late as 7:30 AM; just depends on if I take a shower/wash hair and how tired I am!

What time do you take DC to daycare/nanny? We have had a nanny since I returned to work when #2 was 4 months.  She arrives at 8 AM.

What time do I pick them up? Again, no picking up.  Nanny works till 4:30.

What time do I stop working? Generally at 4:30, but then after the kids are in bed, I log back on email and tie up loose ends. On the random occassion I have meetings that go past 4:30, then DH (who also works from home) will take care of the kids until I'm finished.

Office set up? The rooms that is supposed to be a home office (on the 1st floor) was turned into a dedicated playroom.  As such, I took an upstairs bedroom and turned it into my office.  As far as what it looks like - I have a long L shaped desk.  One end is my work area, the other end is my scrapbooking area. There is also a daybed for when we have company.

Do I leave to work somewhere else? On occassion I go into our local office (about a 40 min drive) for meetings, to get my laptop serviced, etc.  otherwise I generally do not; however on a couple of occassions my ATT Uverse has gone down and I've went to the local Starbucks - which is a free ATT hotspot for me so that I could have connectivity.
