Help needed! Tips for first time baby registry!?!?

I'm looking for tips, advice, words of wisdom from mom's, mom-to be's- anyone who can give me an inside scoop on what I REALLY can't live without (not what BRU thinks I need) and what would be nice to have and wish list items to register for?

Thanks in advance for the help ladies!

  • My best advice is to take someone with you that has had children in the last 5 years or so.  I took my sister with me (she has a 6 and 4 year old) and she really helped me narrow down what I'd need and what is kind of useless (things like wipe warmers) and what not to forget.  We did the babies r us (BRU) registry together (one stop shop!) and then I dupicated it at Target basically.  The nice thing about BRU is that they have prettym uch everything in store, where as target will have their larger selection online.

  • Best book to get is Baby Bargains, This is the best book every it really lets you know what you need & what you don't need plus reviews. Also go & look at the stuff in the stores. Personally I love my stroller not only is it small but it is so easy to move around, I have a City Mini.
  • let me see:  1. high chair (i loved our fisher price space saver chair-it also became a booster seat!-fits in a regular chair instead of taking up space),

    2. stroller (an umbrella one and if you need it a travel system-we just did a chicco umbrella style-cuz face it in MN with a Jan. baby I am not using a stroller until they are able to sit up anyway),

bath supplies (lotions, shampoo, towels, wash clothes, infant tub),

bedding (if you can find sheets etc that you like register for stuff separately-bedding sets are really a waste as you rarely if ever use the fancy comforter, bed skirt etc),

diaper pail of some sort-and believe me you don't need the fancy diaper genie type either.  we had just a safety first pail that you could put odorizers in which has worked great.

baby dishes, bottles, silverware, sippy cups-you'll need them all at some point

educational toys you might like versus others.

    books

baby monitor-we actually found a phone system that we registered for a few years back that works as a room monitor too-it is awesome.

lamp for baby's room-for late night diaper changes etc.

diapers-find a brand you might like and put them on

swing or bouncy seat or pack and play-whatever you feel you want

baby carrier-either sling or baby bjorn type (there are cheaper versions of baby bjorn that work awesome)

    Car Seat/Booster Seat

    picture frames/photo book/memory book

I would not register for too many blankets-a few will work, wipe warmer (seems like a total waste), some clothing is okay,

those are my off the top suggestions-my thought on a registry is shoot for the moon!!!   good luck
