30th Birthday Parties

Hey Ladies!

I need some ideas for planning Bryan's 30th birthday party.  His birthday is in October, but I figure it's probably a good idea to start thinking about it.  I'd like to surprise him, if possible - and the guest list would probably be on the larger side with 50+ people who would want to be there.

So give me your ideas or what you've done.  I'm starting from scratch here!

Re: 30th Birthday Parties

  • For Nick's 30th, I rented slot machines, roulette wheels, craps tables and card tables and had a vegas themed surprise party.  I gave everyone a bag full of chips when they walked in the door to gamble with all night.  I think everyone had a great time.  I actually think there might be some pictures on my Facebook if you go way back to May 2006.

  • I had a surprise party for dh last year & it was pretty low key.  I had about 40 people there & just decorated everything with that items that matched the invitations, I think they said "Oh No The BIG 3 0".  DH's parents & I took him to dinner & my sisters decorated my house while we were out & I had a ton of appetizers at my house for everyone while they waited.  Since dh's bday is in July I had cornhole set up & tables for beer pong & poker just in case.

  • Its funny that you mentioned this now, mine is this Saturday!  We are just having a big party at our house with lots of friends and family and food.  No theme in particular although everything is pink since I LOVE pink.

  • LOL!!  My DH's is in Oct too and I've been thinking about this since Feb.  I tossed around the idea of just taking him away for the weekend to drink lots of wine, but with the new house, I've given that up.  I've thought about making tee times for him and some buddies at a really nice course in the morning and then setting up the house for a shindig after.  Not sure if the weather wll work out since his bday is the end of the month.  DH loves bowling, so I've also thought about having a party at a bowling alley.  My friend's SIL rented a bus for her brother and they bar hopped around town.  Have fun planning and share your ideas.....I might need them!!  :-)

  • For mine(Feb) and DH's (May) we had a joint party.  We love dress up parties and so do our friends.  We had a White Trash Birthday Bash.  Everyone dressed up in their white trash finest and we rented out a local hall.  It was like an American Legion or VFW hall so we could bring our own food and alcohol.  We had white trash themed food and drinks.  It was really fun (from what I remember). :)  If you are my friend on FB, there are some pictures out there.
  • DH will hit the big 30 next year but I've already been thinking. I've been to a few fun surprise parties. 1. Casino in Lousiville, private party beforehand in one of the small banquet rooms. He told the wife that they were going down there for a work function. 2. Upstairs at a bar...Covington main strasse has a lot of bars that have upstairs areas, you can go "for a drink" before dinner and surprise with all the friends and family upstairs.

  • DH turned 30 two weeks after returning from our honeymoon, and I threw him a backyard luau celebration... (his b-day is mid-July)... I sent out Hawaiian-themed invites to about 40 of our family and friends, and I decorated the backyard/deck with lots of tiki torches, music, and we had grass skirts and umbrella drinks for guests. We had a BBQ and guests played cornhole. It was a fun party!

My 30th is in October, so I wonder if DH has anything cooked up for me?? Surprise

Oh I think I'm liking this idea!  I might give Zazou or Cosmo's a call and see if I can book something there.  I might be able to do it at my house but I just worry that it might be too cramped in here if the weather is cool.

Thanks for all the responses ladies!! Big Smile
