TTC after 35

FINALLY some good news...

not that..my uterus is still empty.  Hmm

Anyway, my mom had a Dr's appointment and her white blood cells were in the normal range. Party!!!  This is good news and means that the new chemo is fighting the leukemia.  The more promising news is that this was her 1st round of chemo and she has at least 3 more to go. Please keep your fingers crossed.

My husband and I had a long talk a couple weeks ago.  I had told him that my OBGYN said she was going to recommend a fertility specialist. At the time, I told her no because we did not plan on doing more than we had (clomid injections).  I'm having a dejavu so if I'm repeating myself I'm sorry.  Anyway, husband said he was a little more open to more procedures like an IUI (I am as well) but if it came to IVF we would adopt (adoption over IVF had always been our plan though I could see this plan even changing).

So we laid out our plan for the next few months. Start back on clomid or femara w/injectables through my OB in September (depending on his job). If that doesn't work go to fertility specialist and see what's up.   So it gives a light at the end of a long dark tunnel.

My mom is really scared that she will never be able to meet her grandkids because of this damn leukemia.  If the chemo she is taking does not allow her to go into remission it can allow her to live a long life.  I would love to be able to tell her that I was pregnant so she had even more to keep her going. Hopefully it will and have more hope that it will.

ETA: I wish I had more time to post on here.  I miss you all.

Re: FINALLY some good news...

  • Hi Birdie!  That is such great news about your Mom, I am so glad to hear she is doing better and I hope this set of Chemo knocks it out of her.  My Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer last year, had the surgery and went through chemo and radiation.  She just got a clean bill of health for at least the next 3 months so I can relate to how you are feeling, it is all so scary.  You are in my prayers.

On the "other" note...good luck with whatever you decide to do and hope it brings you your BFP!!

  • Hi, Birdie!

It's good to "see" you - and GREAT to hear your wonderful news. YAY for your mom's test results!

I can almost hear the relief when you write about the fertility specialist.

I've recently started seeing an RE, and he's been really wonderful about saying that we only do what DH and I are comfortable with, and we do it at our pace, not his. I guess I'm telling you this because I hope your DH knows that just finding out what's going on doesn't automatically mean you'll go the IVF route. It just means that you will have better information to make your decisions with - whatever those decisions might be.

Good luck with everything! Keep us posted when you can.

  • That is great news on your mom!!  I'll keep my fingers crossed but this is definitely good news!

Sounds like you and DH are really in tune with eachother on your plan and how you're going to get to that light at the end of the tunnel!  So happy for you!

Big hugs to you and it was nice to "see" you here!

  • That is great news about your mom! And it sounds like you and DH are on the same page regarding what you want to do to get pregnant.  I wish you lots of luck at the RE...I hope you get some answers and know what you need to do to move forward.
  • That is good news about your mother and also that you and your DH are going to go ahead with TTC again.  I wish you the best and hope you can give your mother some good news soon.

  • Birdie---I'm happy to hear that your Mom is responding to the treatments.  My Mom sucessfully battled Stage 3 ovarian cancer about 4 years ago so I sort of understand what you are going through.  It sure is tough seeing someone you love go through chemo.  I remember wishing I could take it for her.  I also remember begging her to continue treatments after her first round when she told me she was done with it all...thankfully she stuck it out and she been totally cancer free ever since.

Sounds like you and DH have a good plan.  My DH and I were just talking about how our plans have evolved the longer this conception process goes.

  • I am also very glad to hear that your Mom is responding to the treatments! I will say an extra prayer for her tonight, too. ?: )

  • So glad your mom is responding well Birdie. I have also had a couple of major health scares with my mom--breast cancer and smoldering myeloma. It is so scary!

Also happy you and DH are moving forward with some treatment. It is interesting how  plans can change the longer this takes.

Hope you can visit here more often too!
