TTC after 35

Genetic report is in..post D & C

I went to my post D & C appointment today and was surprised to learn that my OB/GYN had the genetic report in hand. My D & C was on 6/18/09 and I was 11 weeks pregnant. I was told it could take up to four weeks to get the results. I don't know if this has answered some questions but here is what it said"Chromosome analysis, performed at Genzyme, showed a normal female karyotype".?I asked my OB/GYN the "What next?" question. I have had two healthy pregnancies and cannot make sense of the two consecutive miscarriages. The first one was 5/08 at 15 weeks. Since I had an emergency C-Section with DD #2 there is a possibililty of scar tissue, per OB/GYN. She did not identify this as the problem but she certainly wants to rule it out. I also mentioned doing additional testing to check for a number of things. So basically, after speaking with OB/GYN I went to the in house lab and they drew so much blood ( I lost track of the number of vials). They will check my thyroid and a number of other things that I can't recall off the top of my head. They also want DH to come in to have his blood drawn for chromosomal testing, as well. Once I get my period, they want me to schedule an HSG (xray of the uterus).Has anyone gone through these procedures..or going through this now?

Re: Genetic report is in..post D & C

  • I'm very sorry for your losses. We are also in the beginning stages of testing. Did the vampire route with my OB/GYN, now we both have to get blood draws again for the RE. DH did an SA, I did the HSG.

I'm sorry I can't speak with any knowledge about the genetic report, but would be more than happy to answer any questions I can about the testing.

  • I am sorry about your losses. I can't comment on the genetics, but I have had a number of tests (including 2 HSGs) and DH has had SA.

Happy to answer what I can.

I'm so sorry for your losses, Nancy. What a tough road you've been on. I have gone through a few of the procedures. My b/w showed that I'm hypothyroid, and I've had an HSG. DH and I also went for genetic counseling due to a genetic disease that my sister died from. They also tested for a few of the more common diseases. ?I am a carrier of my sister's disease, and to our surprise, DH came back a carrier for CF. It all can feel overwhelming at once, but we're here to support you and answer your questions. Good luck!

  • I'm really sorry to hear about your losses.  It sounds like your OB sent you to have a RPL done.  I had this done after my 2nd m/c and everything came back normal.  https://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/miscarriage/rpl.html

I referred to this website at times through some of the various tests.

I also had an HSG done and that too came back normal for me.

  • Sorry about your losses. I am just getting starting with the testing as well.  I have had blood work, DH had an SA, and I will go for an HSG soon.  My GYN also ran tests to see if I am a carrier for some of the more common genetic diseases.

  • I don't have any words of wisdom but I wanted to just thank you for sharing. I hope you have a run of good luck in the near future.
  • Hi, Nancy.

I'm very sorry for your losses.

DH and I are in the beginning stages of the testing.

I had a lot of blood drawn and an ultrasound done two weeks ago. AF just showed up today, and I'm having more tests done tomorrow. DH is having a SA on Thursday. And there are more tests to be scheduled for me later in my cycle.

We're all in this together around here. :)

  • i'm sorry for your losses. it's so frustrating!

i had a karyotype done on second mc and it was a chrom normal boy. doesn't mean something else was going haywire though. it's good to know your body can put together the chromosomes but there can be other issues that aren't related to the chroms. doesn't make it any easier though.

we did rpl tests and passed w/ flying colors. the lab filled up 10 vials! dh only had to give one vial.

?i'm glad they are doing the testing, hopefully it will give you some answers. i was convinced i had some type of blood clotting disorder but all came back fine and i've been placed in the "unexplained" category -- talk about frustrating.?

anyway, good luck. a lot of us have done the hsg. take advil an hour before and you should be fine.?
