When something is posted just to advertise...I delete. If something is not-so-kind, I have left it in the past and other people have commented. I guess it depends on how you feel about it.

I set my blog so that I have to approve any comment before it actually appears. I don't think that my blog posts are even controversial (I just have the sf blog) but you'd be surprised at how strongly people feel in regards to their preferences! Anyway, enabling comment moderation is the way to go if you ask me.
It depends. My blog is so boring that no one ever writes anything derogatory. I do have moderator powers, and I have deleted a couple of comments because they mentioned things I didn't want showing up on my blog.
If you think it would be more educational to your audience as a whole to respond, go for it. If you think it will be useless, delete it.
I just don't want my blog to become a forum to debate adoption vs. anti-adoption or become birthparent vs. adoptive parent. It's just about my journey and the things that impact it, period.
Wendy -- thank you! Your response was what I was trying to say, but couldn't find the words. (We had an emergency with our birthmother last night and I'm exhausted -- that's another post though.)
I think it depends. I got a nice comment from 'anonymous' and only friends and family know my blog address, so I deleted it. If I had a public blog I would leave all of the 'negative' comments as long as they were respectful, otherwise I would delete. If they are off-topic (like selling me something) I would delete, but if they aren't completely off-topic then I would leave them. I think the beauty of a public blog is that you get to hear all sides...as a blog reader I like to know that there people who read the blog and don't necessarily agree with the blogger.
I've yet to get any negativity on my blog - but I don't think anyone looks at it!
2 years TTC with 5 losses, 1 year recovering, 6 months applying for adoption approval, and almost a year waiting for a placement. Then, a miracle BFP at age 36!
Re: Blog owners
On this blog, *knock on wood* I haven't received any! I'm sure I'd do the same, either respond to the comment or delete it.
I have a hard time ignoring things!!!

Thanks ladies!

Wendy, I like your response. Very calm, rational and informative!
Ditto!
I also responded on your blog.
