I must have been asked this 4 different times at my shower on Saturday! No, I'm not going to quit. Our doctors prefer insurance, the bank prefers the mortgage is paid, and the credit card companies prefer payments to be made. I'm the primary bread winner in the family (MH is in his medical residency) and our all of our different health insurances are through my job. Even if it was an option, I don't know if I would take the opportunity.
Re: "Are you going to quit working after the baby?"
LOL...I get this from people I work with when I go on site visits. Their bosses practically die when they hear their staff ask.
And yes, I will be returning. I did not get pregnant and win the lottery!
I'm in the same boat as you. I HATE this question.
As much as I'd like to stay home I live in one of the most expensive cities in the US. It's just not the same as it was 30 years ago when half these women were popping out babies and making ends meet on one salary.
This. People are already asking me why I'm still working. I have almost 2 months until my due date! Maybe they have more paid time off than me, but I'd like to keep as much of mine as I can for after the baby's here, thanks very much.
I'm going back to work. Some people make me feel like I will be abondoning my baby for 8 hours each day. ergh...it's giving me second thoughts.
Also I have absolutely no idea how I will balance a baby and working. I don't function well on little sleep and I'm a bit of a perfectionist--how will I be the perfect mom and the perfect teacher at the same time? But...so many people do it...hopefully I can too, right?
The women who asked followed up with, "You know the baby will be the most important thing." Their question was full of judgement! I tried to explain to them that while LO will be the most important, feeding, clothing, and protecting him will be necessities that only I can pay for right now.
I hate this attitude you get from the occasional pious stay at home mother. I especially love the "i dont want anyone raising my kids but me" line. I have always been a working mother and regardless of who watched my kids DH and i are the ones who are raising them. People are idiots about this
