I have to have one done this coming Friday and I have no idea if my insurance will cover it. Any ideas on how much this costs OOP? I'm in the midwest, so I know it's probably less than other areas, but I'd like some idea what to expect. TIA!
I had a laparascopy- where they make a small abdominal incision ( I had two incisions) and go in w/ the scope and look at everything-Also had hysteroscopy and cystoscopy (going up the bladder). They found endo and removed it.
I just got my Explanation of benefits- it cost 15,000$. Unsure if yours will cost so much or if you're even getting all that done. Wouldnt they make sure your insurance covers it first? Also for this procedure I was completely under anesthesia, so I'm not sure if you will be if you are only getting a hysteroscopy done and not a lap. I would ask for an estimate and double check on coverage.
My insurance has no fertility coverage, but it covered it- My lap. was done for diagnostic purposes to see if i had endo or anything wrong b/c I am not getting pregnant. So you may be surprised with your coverage- maybe your doctor could code it some way so it's likely to be covered.
just saw your siggy and see it's for a polyp removal- I would hope your insurance should cover that b/c that's a medical problem- not really an elective or specific fertility related problem- so they should cover it i would hope- even if you have no fertility coverage.
And since they are just going up your uterus, it's probably cheaper- i'm not sure if they completely knock you out or what.
I am in the northeast and had a hysteroscopy, polypectomy, and d&c and it was about $10k all together. Operative hysteroscopies are more expensive than just diagnostic hysteroscopies where they're not removing anything. It all depends how they code it I think...they coded mine for infertility. I would get a quote from your doctor and ask them how they will code it. Good luck!

I did a lap + hysteroscopy when I had UHC which covered "diagnostics". I don't remember what the total cost (or my portion) was.
I just did a hysteroscopy @ CCRM as part of my pre-cycle work up, which I'm sure insurance won't cover and I've been told my cost will be around $600.
