My DH and I have decided on the first name of Hendrix if our LO is a boy. I'm worried about the potential nicknames that might come from this but I can't think of any. Can anyone think of a nickname for Hendrix-good or bad?
I can't think of any nicknames that would be "bad." And I don't think many kids of his generation will think of Jimmi Hendrix either. Most kids today are pretty lazy which leads to apathy about learning or remembering anything, so no worries there!
I don't think I agree with the poster who said today's kids won't know who Jimi Hendrix was.
He died more than ten years before I was born, but of course I know who he was - he was a legend, and is considered by many to be the greatest guitar player in the history of rock music. To me, that's like saying no one will think of Elvis Presley if I name my child Elvis. Kids today might be lazy, but they aren't blind to the world around them, especially when it comes to music. Nothing is wrong with the name, but I do think most kids will know about Jimi Hendrix!
I think Henry might be the only nickname that kids might call him, which to me is cute! Good luck!
I can't think of any nicknames... I love the name. And, I swear, about four minutes ago my Husband just asked me what I thought about "Hendrix" for a boy! I definitely think it's a name the guys will LOVE!

This. I could even see the nn Rick/Ricky to play up the -rix in his name.

I agree with all of this. Perhaps I'm sensitive because my dad is Richard and he goes by D%ck (I'm afraid it will get censored), I would slightly worry about that as a nickname for someone of that generation. Otherwise, I can't think of any bad nicknames.
People aren't going to forget about Jimi Hendrix. He's a legend. He will get that association for life which will probably will really annoying. I don't like it as a name.
Why do people get so worked up about nicknames? I don't get it.
My best friend is Patrick. Not Pat. No one calls him Pat. Never been called Pat, even as a child. If someone does call him Pat, he just says, "No, it's Patrick."
Second example... My name is Suzanne. Sometimes people (mostly men, for some reason) will call me Sue. No, that's not my name. Correct and move on.
A nickname isn't a nickname if you discourage people from trying to use it. Most people aren't stupid.

Kids now days will know who Jimmi Hendrix is... I just saw a kids sing-a-long album on tv the other day created off his sounds, made by his son on an infomerical.
