I'm trying to wrap my head around the notion that 7pm is an early bedtime. My 2yo goes to bed between 7 & 7:30 virtually every night, sleeps 11-12 hours and takes a 2 hour nap in the afternoon.
I can't imagine how he would function with less sleep.
Certainly there have been times where he has been up to 9pm or later, but those are special occasions and not the norm.
Not really trying to start a debate here, but I am curious about other bedtimes.
Re: what time do you put your 2 year old to bed?
8:30 pm and he often doesn't nap any more. He sleeps until between 7:30 and 8:30 in the morning. He's over 2.5 now.
He used to go down around 7 when he didn't nap, but no more. I'm not sure if it's because it's so bright out since the days are longer or what, but he won't fall asleep before 8:30 at the earliest regardless of what time I put him to bed.

7:30. sometimes 8 if we are out and it is nice.
He sleeps till 8 in the morning. It does take a bit for him to fall asleep. maybe 20-30 mins. So He is asleep by 8-8:30. It is a solid 11.5-12.5 hours of sleep!!
He goes to bed at 7:30. Sometimes he falls asleep right away, sometims he chats in his crib until 8 or so. He wakes up around 7 AM and naps for about 1.5 hours each afternoon.
I think he needs a tad more sleep, honestly, but we can't seem to get anymore out of him right now.
at 2 yrs old she was going to bed at 7:30 - 8:00... she now goes to bed anywhere between 8-9pm and she naps at least 2 hours every day. Lately shes been getting up around 8:30 but the last few days shes been up between 6:30 and 7am.
I dont think its the early bed time thats the problem....its the rigidity the schedule.

My DD is 3 YO and goes to bed at 8pm and wakes up at 8am. She also takes a 2 hour nap (sometimes 3 hours!) nearly every day. I am fortunate that when I am working, I work from home so DD can sleep in as late as she wants and basically sleeps according to her own natural clock--8pm is when she winds down on her own so we just made that the bedtime. If I had to have her to daycare so that I could be at an office by 8am, she easily would go to bed at 7pm, even at 3 years old.
(That was kind of a dumb statement in the post below. Nobody knows that family's situation--maybe the child has to wake up at 6:30 if the mom/dad have early workdays!)
edited to add: my dd has been on this schedule since long before she turned 2.
DS goes to bed around 8p and is almost always alseep by 830p at the latest. He wakes up between 7-8a on most days.
He takes a 1-1.5 hour nap every day. Sometimes 2 hours if we are lucky (he is MUCH more pleasant after a longer nap, but usually it just doesn't happen).
He will be 2.5 next month. I can't imagine keeping him up any later or him skipping a nap at this point. It has happened (both), but it usually isn't pretty. I think that some kids are just naturally more flexible and some thrive on routine. My DS is the later.
My 2.5 y/o goes to bed around 8p (asleep usually by 8:30ish..) and wakes around 7:30 or 8am. He also takes a 2 hour nap.
My girls are 3 1/2. We start the bedtime routine at 7, and I leave the room after reading about 7:30. They talk and "read" books for about an hour before falling asleep.
We've found if we keep them up later, they still want that hour to wind down together, so they end up staying up way too late, and then someone freaks out.
At 2, DS went to bed at 7 p.m. Now at 3, he goes to bed around 7:45 p.m. He takes a 1 1/2 hr nap each day and wakes up around 7 a.m.
The bedtime routine starts at 8. She goes to sleep around 8:30. And wakes up at 6-6:30. She pretty much always wakes up by 6:30 even if she goes to bed late, but if she goes to bed early she will wake up even earlier!! For a long long time she was up at 5:30 each day so 6:30 is wonderful in comparison.
So 10 hours of sleep each night.
She takes a 2 hour nap.
9-9:30pm
We changed daycares right before DD turned 2. Her nap time went from 12-2:30 to 1-3:30 because they eat lunch an hour later at the new place. Her bedtime also moved back from 8:30. She sleeps 10 hours at night. She's never in her entire life slept more than 10 hours at night. Naps are anywhere from 2-3 hours depending on how tired she is that day.
We eat dinner at 6:30, so there's no way she'd even be ready for bed by 7pm.
