Pre-conception check-up??

After several tough months (family issues) we are going to start TTC again.  Do you ladies recommend a pre-conception check-up with the OB/midwife?  I always get the annual pap exam and get blood-work every other year.  But I wasn't sure if I should get a "pre-conception" check-up and if so what should I ask for?  Thanks!

    Do you know for sure if you're immune to chicken pox and MMR?  Mine checked me for that.  We have a cat too so I asked her to check if I was immune to whatever it is pregnant women can "catch" from changing the litter.  These things could be worth checking.

    My PCP didn't do anything, but when I switched to the GYN, he ran a bunch of tests to see if I was a carrier for CF, FragileX, etc.  So, it might not be a bad idea to schedule an appt to see if you should get tested for anything.

    When we decided to try my ob/gyn just gave me my routine annual exam, wished us luck and said to come back in 6 months if we weren't PG.  The gene for cystic fibrosis runs in my Mom's side of the family so I also got a referral to have genetic testing done for the CF gene...luckily I don't have the gene my family has so DH did not need to be tested.
