Does fork-tender mean a fork slides right through?

I'm trying my hand at potato salad and the recipe says boil the potatoes until fork-tender. What exactly does that mean? I assume I don't want them mushy, but I'm a little lost.

  • Means you don't have to fight to push it into the potato, but it's not so cooked that it falls apart either.  So yes - slides right in.
