I exercised with both pregnancies, and was wondering for how long you worked out pregnant with twins........maybe sounds silly, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't different (although I feel like my body is more sensitive this time)....
I ran until 13 weeks. Power walked and used an elliptical until 25. At 25 I switched to the elliptical and swimming laps. At 32 I was swimming laps only. I am now power walking again (I am on a mission now).
This level of activity was not new for me; I was a distance runner pp. Listen to your body. Do not get dehydrated. I always rechecked with my OB about activity levels. GL
oh hell no to the exercise! I was pretty fit pre-pg, but my peri told me to stick to walking & swimming. I walked almost every day until I went on hospital bedrest at 23w. Seriously, just take it easy...you can exercise all you want after those babies are safely outside. Listen to your body!
I too was an exerciser pre-PG, so make sure to discuss that w/ your dr first and foremost about what he/she thinks is ok for you. Mine said swimming, walking, stationary bike, light weights (like 5 lb. free weights), and prenatal yoga. These activities haven't proved a problem for me (I only go for like 30 min. max, 1 hr. if it's prenatal yoga).
Best tip as other's mentioned: Listen to your body. There have definetly been days/weeks I took it easy or layed off/low from the gym due to having company in town or just an exhausting week. No need to overdo it, you know? I HAVE to walk all over the place (I live in the city--no car) so sometimes I just feel the walking from plc. to plc. is enough. Other days, I am up for a gym session...totally depends on my body that day!
I ALWAYS review my exercise w/ my peri each visit, just to be sure I am given a green light. He said in about a month, I should cut down my exercise somewhat and maybe just do walking and swimming.
I was extremely active prior to getting pregnant. By 16-17 weeks I was already feeling winded very easily and definitely cut back. I started having braxton hicks at 17 weeks. That pretty much made me cut back my activity a lot. I thought I was listening to my body but I wish I had cut back more!! Now I am on bedrest and it is SO hard to do nothing and even harder to watch others do it for me!!! Good luck! Listen to your body and then cut back a little more!!
I was very active before getting pregnant and in the beginning my doctor told me to take it easy. Once I hit the 12 week mark and things were looking good, he suggested walking and swimming. I have been walking as much as the weather permits but I definetly get winded easier and can't go as far or as long. But like everyone else said-listen to your body!
I ran until 24 weeks (which is when dr luke advised to cut back) did indoor cycling and swimming until 29 weeks.
I am now on modified bedrest for a thinning cervix, at 31 weeks, but my drs say it's unrelated to exercise. they even still approve the pool (no pressure on cervix when in water).
