Re: Cloth Diapers
Check out the EFF board. They love talking CDs.
As for price and stuff... it seems that most of the bigger brands cost the same no matter where they come from. Independent makers are sometimes cheaper, but not always.

The eco friendly Family board will be great for this question.
I am getting several types, I bought 30 infant prefolds and 30 of the next size up infant size ( from green mountain diapers) I got the seconds and they are practically perfect but half the price. Then I'm getting some fitted from a WAHM and I'll use covers. But you generally wash them in your washing machine.
I plan on cloth diapering. I have a few friends who do it and love it. I am all for saving the environment and some money.
I plan on using a couple different kinds until I find what works best for my LO. So far I've got three Bum Genius diapers and I am ordering a 3 pack of a new brand called Smarti Pants. I plan on having anywhere between 16-22 by the time I start him on CDs.
This blog has been really helpful to me.

I've been gathering information for awhile now and it has been a huge topic on my local board lately with lots of people wanting to make the switch.
A great resource is www.jilliansdrawers.com There you can sign up for the trial package which is what I plan on doing so you can try out several styles of diapers to see what actually works for your baby before you invest in one type.

Good Luck in your research!
We have decided to cloth diaper as well! After doing tons of research and lurking the eco-friendly family board for weeks, this is what we have decided to use from birth: (you will need about 24 for a newborn)
8 x Kissaluvs fitteds size 0
1 x fuzzibunz pocket size small
1 x happy heinys pocket size nb
1 x bumgenius all-in-one deluxe size small
12 x newborn prefolds from green mountain diapers (these are apparently the BEST!!)
5 x PUL covers (3 x thirsties size xs, 1 x bummis size xs, 1 wool cover)
Accessories: small garbage bin with lid, 2 dry bags, 2 snappis fasterners for the prefolds, 30 cloth wipes, a spray bottle to wet the wipes, organic powdered detergent for washing.
And then when he grows out of that stuff, hopefully I will have a better idea of which kinds of diapers I like best and get that for when he is older.
If you are EBFing, you can just wash them right in the machine! But if you are FFing and also when you start solids, you can use a diaper liner which catches all the solids and just throw that straight in the toilet and flush.
Check out youtube for demonstrations on how to use cloth diapers.
p.s. I just got a whole bunch in the mail today and I am SO excited to start cloth diapering! They are so cute and soft and look very easy to use!
Hope that helps!!
