Dallas-Fort Worth Babies

Update on my sister

Poor thing.  She's really, really sore recovering from the c-section, and then she had one of those spinal headache things - so they had to go in today and do a blood patch to get her headache to go away.  First the HBP, then GD, and then 1% of people get the spinal headache.  I sure hope she has a very easy baby :)

We were going to go up there tonight and visit, but she wasn't feeling up for it.  I TOTALLY understand, and I can't imagine with everything she's got going on.

Luckily Hailey has been feeding and sleeping great.  I really hope she starts feeling better!   Hopefully she will get to go home tomorrow or Saturday...

  • Hope she gets to feeling better. Recovering from c-section just sucks. Tell her to stay at the hospital and utilize the nurses as much as possible. Is your BIL taking a few weeks off to help her?

He's in sales and works from home, so I hope he will be a big help to her. With my job situation, I told her to call me if she needs me, and I can come over :)

  • Oh that's great. I remember wanting to leave the hospital so bad and then when I got home I could barely get in and out of my bed.

    All of this :(

I was really hoping she'd be one of those women that have a "great" c-section. Poor thing.

We have a pretty high bed and I had to use a step stool for the first couple of weeks.

It was the same for me.  Actually DH told me I would be more comfortable at home and so we left the hospital.  They were willing to keep me another day.  Once we got home and I tried to get into our bed I cried and cried.  I said I wanted to go back to the hospital.  If I had it all over to do again I would stay longer.  Use the nurses... that is what they are there for. :)

This!! I left the hospital after one full day other than the birth day and had an anxiety attack and cried to go back to the hospital. LOL! I won't make that same mistake.
  • I just talked to Allison, and she sounds SO much better.  I was so proud of Frankie for telling the 128842 people that wanted to come visit tonight, that they needed tonight to themselves!

She actually got up, walked the halls, took a shower, and is feeling much, much better.  She got the blood patch, and her headache is completely gone.  Hailey is sleeping like an angel, and latching great!

I think she's a little nervous about leaving tomorrow, but I told her that is normal, and it will get more and more comfortable at home as she gets used to their "routine".

    Yay, I'm so happy! :)

  • Well that's good news! I remember that feeling of not wanting to leave because now it's ALL on you to take care of this new little person. Scary and exciting all at the same time!

  • So glad to hear she is feeling better! I hope hers is easy from here on out!!

I actually had a very easy c-sect recovery (I am not the norm apparently).

  • Ugh, that is so difficult, but I am glad to hear that she is feeling better now. I, too had a complicated recovery after my c-section including blood transfusions, migraines, high blood pressure, etc. and ended up in the hospital for 6 days, so I can somewhat relate with her experience to a certain extent. She will do fine once she is at home....you know, it is so different at first, but it will all come together for her naturally and hopefully, she heals physically fairly quickly so that it isn't too hard on her body. Good thing her husband is around to help out too, mine was an absolute God-save when it came helping as much as he could and in making it as easy as possible for me to be able to recover more quickly once we were at home.

Some women do! I don't know what your situation was, but my doctor told me that it is a lot rougher after a long labor. He said, "you wouldn't run a 12k before giving birth, right?". Maybe I am a wuss, but I was pretty worn out from pushing by the time I had to go in for my surgery. That is his main argument for not doing a VBAC, but I still want to try and he says he'll "let" me.

You may be onto something here. I was only in labor for 5 hours & was at 9cm at check in after only 3 hours of labor. I was exhausted because I had been in hard labor almost right from the begining.

You are not a wuss. I think I have a big pain tolerance (if that makes sense) because I didn't have much pain.

I also want to try for a VBAC & hope I am a candidate. We shall see.
