what bank do you use & why?

we're going to open a checking account here and if you love your bank, please let me know.  I like smaller banks, but am looking at chase right now bc our credit card is with them and there's chase back home (I'm looking for a free checking account with no ATM fees at any ATM)

TIA!

Re: what bank do you use & why?

  • Frost is a very good, local bank. Both of my brothers worked for them before they went to work for my parents.

    They have great customer service.

ETA: I have no idea about their usage fees. I just remember that my brother said they wave fees any time someone complains, even if it is the person's fault.

  • I would recommend Frost as well ... not because I know anything about them ... but because they're one of the larger 'local banks'.  As a big banker myself (who feels stuck with her bank) ... I couldn't ever go to a neighborhood bank, but Frost would be a good compromise for me.

  • We opened an account at Chase when we moved down here. When we lived in Tulsa, we used a local bank. However, my DH travels a lot and we wanted a bank he would be able to get to from where ever he is. Plus they had a deal where if you open an account with at least $100, they give you $100.

  • We use ViewPoint because DH is a manager at one.  They are only local to DFW.  The main thing I like about them is the high interest rates on free checking accts.  They used to be a credit union and still offer rates like they are.
