Pregnant after a Loss

Omega-3, fish oil supplements

Does anyone take these? I have been reading about how important Omega-3 is especially during the 3rd tri and when breastfeeding. I don't eat seafood (I never have) and I know there are other foods that are a source but I'm wondering if maybe I should start a supplement. I'm going to talk to my dr. too but I was just wondering your thoughts on it.

  • I don't like seafood either, but I was reading a parenting mag on the plane yesterday and one article was talking about the importance of this...they were saying salmon should be a staple in a pg woman's diet...I don't know, I might lather one in butter and try to suck it up, lol!

  • I've been taking omega 3 for a couple of years.  I actually started because my skin was weird and dry, so it was supposed to help with that.  They aren't bad.  The only thing I've noticed in pregnancy is an awful fish taste if I burp, but it has only happened a few times.
  • I was taking it before I got pg, but then I had to stop in first tri because of the fish burps (they happen 30-45 min after I take the pill).  I have been trying to eat fish at least once a week, but I should probably start taking the supplement again.
  • I have been taking them since before I was pregnant because they are good for your heart and even are proven to help stay more positive. I bought mine at Wal-mart for under $10 and I do not get fish burps from them. Just be sure to check the label to see what kind of fish it is made from. You don't want to take a lot of the kind made up of high mercury fish.

  • Enfamil (I think is the brand I take) makes it just for pregnant and nursing moms....I even got a coupon from them...I get it at Walmart for about $10.....It doesn't give me ANY fishy burps or aftertaste:)  It is in a yellow box and around prenatals...
  • I have... I have kind of alternated between a pill and a supplement called Coromega, it comes in little squeeze packets.  (You can order on Amazon, or Vitamin Shoppe carries it, even my grocery store carries it).

  • I take fish oil, so does DH. If you store it in the freezer and or take it right when you eat it isn't too bad. Occassionally if you take it on a more empty tummy you will get a gross burp.

It is good for the DHA...some PNVs have DHA in them now, but mine does not. HTH
