Where is the safest place to store fireworks?

DH went apeshit crazy at the fireworks store for our 4th celebration and left a boat load of fireworks just sitting in our foyer. 

I'm paranoid when it comes to explosives...so I cringe everytime I see them.

Should I move them to the basement?  Is that safer?

I have horrible images of our house blowing up.  Extreme, I know...

do you have a garage?  i would put them out there. 

 otherwise I would find a closet to put them and hide from the kids.
