collapsing nipple

So we started Andrew on 3 months nipples at about a month old...and now that he's 3 months old, lately, sometimes he's collapsing the nipple.

It's just because he's sucking too hard, right?  It's not possible that he is intentionally "biting" down if he doesn't want anymore food?  I don't know if I want to switch him up to a stage 3 nipple...it seems really early and I feel like if he eats too fast it could make him vomit more?  Then again, he's really burpy lately so maybe he's sucking too hard and swallowing too much air.  I'm confused. Obviously. haha

Re: collapsing nipple

  • My guess is that he's sucking too hard collapsing the nipple.  I wouldn't go up a nipple size though.  Our pedi told us that we probably wouldn't ever go up to a Level 3 nipple and that most babies don't.  Hmmm...I don't have any idea what to say to help though.  Sorry!

  • Sounds like he's sucking too hard to me.  Can you try Dr. Brown's?  Emma collapsed nipples on the target brand bottles that I bought for pumping into.  I gave it to her in the car one time because she was too hungry to wait for me to finish pumping.  Anyway, she never collapsed a Dr. Brown's.  HTH!
  • We use dr. brown's! :) I don't think he's collapsing those, but just the bottles we used from the NICU that we use to supplement (since our 4 oz browns aren't quite big enough, but i feel like the 8 oz bottels are way too big)  but maybe we'll go to the 8 ouncers!
